Innovative Language Learning, the "Pod101" company, which I consider to be the best language podcast company, has started up a ThaiPod101.
http://www.thaipod101.com

Intermediate lessons haven't been created yet, but there are some videos that are just beautifully done; Thai with Thai subtitles, which are intermediate level.

The advanced audio blogs they have are really nice, have straightforward language and come with Thai and English transcripts.

There are some beginner and survival phrase podcasts. They are well done, and probably better than anything else out there, but the teachers aren't true voice actors, so they lack the amusing banter present in their other language podcasts. I am going to request that they add voice actors, or train their existing actors.

These are totally free, but you may have to join to get to the lessons (I joined by habit - I'm a member of Japanese, French and Russian Pod101)

I have no affiliation with this company, and in no way stand to gain from it. But I request that you all go give them some traffic so that they will add lessons. Their other languages have hundreds of lessons, so here is our chance to finally get some descent podcasts for Thai. A good podcast will help fill what is in my opinion the biggest hole in Thai learning resources - the lack of graduated comprehensible audio with transcripts.

Hi all,

I've recently been learning Thai, and I'm picking it up quite quickly.

However, there's a few things that have me a little confused.

1. Is there a general rule about using mai chai instead of just mai? Relating to yes or no answers.

2. Krab & ka, I understand its purpose; but amongst friends I wouldn't imagine people use this too often. Therefore, would this mean that you'd look like a fool if you're constantly addressing your Thai friends with Krab or ka?!

3. I notice a lot of people have different ways of saying simple sentences or statements. Does this mean one is more correct than the other? Or one is more slang than the other?

4. Has anyone, or is anyone using Pimsleur's Thai as a guide? Any good? I'm halfway into it. Anybody's recommendations for better alternatives or online worksheets etc, would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks heaps, this is my first post, and looking forward to continuous contribution.

Hello! I would be appreciative if anyone could help in translating these few sentences into Thai:

1. I'd like to know if I sent my almsbowl to your shop if you could expand it by at least 1.5 to 2 inches.

2. Do you make forest almsbowls for tudong monks, as in those that are larger than normal?

3. How long would it take for your shop to expand my almsbowl?

4. Can you make an 11 inch almsbowl in all three styles?? Tiger's head, lemon, and lok-jaan?

I can read Thai already and communicate at a basic level thanks to Ms. Becker's book, but unfortunately I can't find the Intermediate version yet here in Thailand, even when I visited Bangkok a few weeks ago. I do have the three-way dictionary but get a lot of raised eyebrows due to yet perfect sentence structure :-) Any response is GREATLY appreciated.
