Award winning master chefs from all around the world were flown in to Bangkok to cook especially for this event. For our meal, we were honoured to have Anthony Demetre from the UK. Most night there will be different chefs. The festivals runs from today until 12th September 2010.
Hopefully no-one noticed that I went to a 5,000 baht a head meal instead!

- Posted from my iPhone

My Thai Street Food Challenge

For the month of September I have set myself a challenge to only eat Thai street food for every meal. To make the challenge more difficult and also interesting at the same time, I cannot repeat any of the dishes. So, that means at least 90 different dishes this month. Some people say that it is cheaper to eat out in Thailand unlike in the West. I often cook food for myself as I don't like having the meals sweetened so much or flavoured with MSG. But, the ingredients I choose and also the electric cooker and oven can make this choice quite expensive. I am also thinking I might put on more weight if I just eat street food all the time. Let's see!

I will be posting updates during the challenge on my new Twitter account @EnjoyThaiFood. Then a daily roundup over at www.EnjoyThaiFood.com.

In New York, my home city, one of the most anticipated restaurant openings of the year has been Fatty 'Cue, which adds Southeast Asian seasonings to traditional American slow-cooked barbecue. (Successfully, and deliciously.) Disregarding venues that simply tame Thai spicing for Western palates, do any Bangkok restaurants attempt to fuse traditional Thai dishes with flavors more typically associated with the Americas, Africa, or Europe?
