what is close-minded anyway? I think that I am open-minded, but introverted... does that fit together? ;-)

I guess Pailin means a certain member of this forum who was ranting at xenophobic farangs?

Yes, that was a rant I was having about a certain someone. Betti, I don't think you're close minded at all... interesting that you see yourself that way.

Yes, I do feel like things have changed on the forums...what do you think it is?

Pailin, it is usually very difficult for me to take others' point of view and I can easily lose my patience if someone is being utterly stupid - from my point of view, that is. lots of opportunities to explode then, working in a Thai school. so, usually I try to avoid arguments and conflicts, and even normal civilised debates.

maybe it's not the forums that have changed but we have. hard to tell because as time goes by, I tend to keep further and further away from anything that would require me to think in a deep or complex way. so, maybe my perception hs changed, not the forums. I guess being a kindergarten teacher is like being on maternity leave for 3 years (normal in my country so I can compare myself to friends/bloggers who have done this), you become highly practical, have no energy for theoretical discussions, and things become much, much simpler and clearer. things like I don't really care about the deeper cultural and social implications of the "saving face" issue, I just want a struggling kid to learn to read and not pretend he is reading, no matter what everyone else thinks or does. politics, I have always been disgusted of politics, all politicians should be shot. etc.

I think you ask a lot of good questions and share your experiences as your own and have a genuine interest in knowing about people. ...but maybe these are all parts of Betti. :)

Pailin sorry to hear about your allergy :-( I think I was quite similar (now I have no cats so past tense.) the funny thing is the allergy test didn't inidcate cats as a potential problem AT ALL so I never even suspected it could be one of the reasons for the really horrible condition of my lungs. I only suspected it must have been partly cats when I moved to Thailand and only produced severe allergic symptoms after patting stray cats.
but of course nasty seasonal pollens and horrible cold weather didn't help either. now happy to be almost free of allergy most of the year and I am off my asthma medications which I had been taking for 10 years. never dreamed this would be possible.

Maipenrai tell us about that dinner :-D

as for close mindedness, on Friday afternoons I don't want to see or talk to anyone, no matter what colour or what age or what they are saying and I am not interested in anyone or anything. I almost pass out with my eyes open. - is that close mindedness? :-D

I think that is being human! Fridays are my most introverted days. I have these colleagues who go for happy hour drinks every friday and invite me. a) I don't really like these colleagues b)I'm not the happy hour kind of girl c) Hello? It's Friday, I'm beat! For some reason I can't say no to them...so instead I say things like "Umm...I'll see" and I never NEVER show up. So why do they keep asking me? It's getting progressively awkward.
