congratulations Betti!! and I think you deserve the rest too! no long weekends in sight here until at least Christmas - or that's how it feels anyway. time seems to be fleeing from me at the speed of light! my life is going crazy, and half of me loves it, half of me is dead scared. did i mention i might go to africa in autumn?? and that somebody wants me back now?? how f***ed up is that! (please excuse my language....) any advice except from laughing at myself? :-D Betti, one day i'll show up at your place and ask you if you can please hide me under your bed! ;-)
What a great day, Betti! (envy all around, I'm sure!) I love your idea of the long sleep. Well deserved, indeed! And my goodness maipenrai! What a whirlwhind of a life. My advice, buckle in and enjoy the ride. Also... own your power... you're able to accept into your life what you want, so do it!! Africa...cool! For fancy scientist stuff? Yes, Western men suck...that would be a fun thread. We should do one that is more sublte...like those spammers who keep recommending their software... :) I got a delightful message from Hunsolo on my visitor's board today (I invite you to take a look).
Maipenrai - bed news - you can't hide under my bed! it's one of those matresses on a platform :-) no, it's not just western men that suck.... ALL men suck :-D
btw Hunsolo deserves a warning for insulting others.... I might take up the issue after some sleep. I hope you didn't take it to heart. he is a loser and his opinion doesn't matter anyway.
Oh, I didn't take it to heart at all. At first, I was very confused... you pity me why? That's actually a really good picture. Obviously he is grasping at straws. I also wouldn't say that I've insulted him directly...I just like to laugh at his foibles. :)
I don't think all men suck. I like men a lot. I think that there are a lot of sucky men on these forums. The worst are the sanctimonious ones who portray themselves as white nights saving women. Give-me-a-break.
no, I mean many men are nice when they are humans, such as colleagues, friends, acquaintances, people who happen to be men. they suck when the relationship is a man-woman one, not a human-human one. (English language sucks as well, why are all human terms gender loaded? we don't have gender in Hungarian. if you say the word "man", as in, "and then the man came up to me", it means that it IS important in one way or another what the gender was. I can never get used to all these gender loaded terms in English and the lack of neutral terms. sorry my fault.)
what kinds of neutral terms do you have in Hungarian? In your example, if the gender was not important, would you say something like "person"? Do you have other examples? If I had more time and brain capacity I would definitely learn Hungarian!! Pailin, I saw the comment on your profile page... and I think he's the one who should be pitied... he must be one of those "I'm-a-loser-and-try-to-hide-it-by-insulting-other-people" guys! :-p (...good to know there is a special category for these guys!) ;-) oh, and you're right about my whirlwind life! Seems like the wild phase most other women have between 15 and 20 I now have between 25 and 30 !! :-o Africa: yes, for fancy science stuff ;-) but also to get to know that person I met recently a bit better! I've had enough of complicated relationships! What an irony that "somebody else" now wants me back, when it's too late!!
neutral terms, like, we don't have different words for he and she, so for example, you can talk about God without having to decide God is male, if you are gay you can refer to your partner naturally without giving it away and lying, etc. yes, we use something like you have in German "mensch" but more often than you guys do to refer to a person in general. also, we don't really have Mr/Miss/Mrs that we would use all the time, there are terms for these words but they are very official, we only use them in writing formal letters or maybe in court :-) I don't really know how to explain better.
So Thai is a good fit for you... it was a challenge learning to leave my gender language behind when learning Thai. ....and on the flip side... when learning French in school at age 12 we were all like "what the hell?!?!" EVERY noun is male or female...what is that about. As kids we couldn't get it at all.
