  2. News: Re: Prayut to lead 'super board' on education system reform

Patriotism is now an academic subject?
  3. News: Re: Activists Arrested for Handing Out Bird T-Shirts

It often requires great adversity to bring out the nobility in people.
  4. News: Re: Prayut wants Yingluck to fight the cases and not flee country

The reverse psychology isn't working, but bless his heart for trying. YL isn't going anywhere. He is just going to have to make a martyr out of her.
  5. Re: Next government is bound to carry out reforms or faces punishment

Thailand has never been much more than a "toddler" in the democratic growth cycle. It should, however, have the opportunity to grow and mature without constant interruption. Enemies of democracy...
  6. Opinion: Re: Dynamics of power are key as Kingdom struggles with the 'great game' of diplomacy

It is also difficult to form a cohesive strategy, based on the advice of fortune tellers.
  7. News: Re: Army closely monitoring red leaders

It is surprising that the political opposition still has politically opposing views! It is time for more intensive "attitude adjustment."
  8. News: Re: Army closely monitoring red leaders

Because they all have the proper "attitude."
  9. News: Re: Dr Visanu : Election possible next January

The U.S. would not invest ground troops here. What they would do is fund/arm an insurgent group that looked like it had a good chance and maybe sneak in a few advisers. There is the cycle of...
  10. News: Re: Dr Visanu : Election possible next January

This is very dangerous for the junta and they seem oblivious to the fact. The U.S. has significant financial and strategic interests that are being threatened. Does anyone know what has been done in...
  11. Re: Thailand: Land of smiles, land of ghosts

So, if one doesn't believe in ghosts then one cannot refrain from doing bad things? That's pretty messed up.
  12. News: Re: Thai Conservative Activist Warns of US 'Terrorism'

The quickest for the junta to run afoul of the US would be to get too cozy with China or make moves that seriously damage US corporations. Otherwise, any form of overt interventiom is extremely...
  13. Re: Thailand: Land of smiles, land of ghosts

I have no evidence to support a belief in ghosts. My wife, on the other hand, claims to have had first-hand experience.
  14. News: Re: Double Bombs Target High-End BKK Shopping Mall

I suspect that the pipe bomb incident might be a false flag operation. The timing and the justification it provides are just too coincidental.
  15. News: Re: Thai Conservative Activist Warns of US 'Terrorism'

The US would NEVER invade Thailand. They might back another horse, but would never invade. This person must be very ignorant of the US history of foreign intervention. Most forms of intervention are...
  16. News: Re: Martial law to be strictly enforced

I think the best move would be for all the people from the north and northeast to just go home for a few months. People in those regions are good at foraging for food and can easily survive on nam...
  17. News: Re: Gen Prayut insists democracy in Thailand will never die

"I beg you people to understand the meaning of democracy more thoroughly."

Please share your definition of "democracy" more fully, dear general. The rest of the world has the following...
  18. News: Re: Prayut dismisses rumor of THAI going bankrupt

"Gen Prayut said THAI wouldn’t go bankrupt as the government was taking care of it." Ah, yes; too big to fail. Where have I heard that before? In other words, it would go bankrupt if it wasn't...

  21. News: Re: Yingluck Meets Top US Diplomat-but Prayuth Snubbed.

    "Politics is politics," he said.

He does realize that a coup is not "politics," doesn't he?
  22. News: Re: Yingluck Meets Top US Diplomat-but Prayuth Snubbed.

"...broad diversity of views within the country." The junta cannot tolerate these sorts of "divisions in society." Everyone must hold the "correct" views or undergo an "attitude adjustment."
  23. News: View Post

I don't align with shirt color, other than when referring to election results. I thing in terms of "the people" (i.e., the electorate) and how those who seek to lead them obtain and wield power. What...
  24. News: View Post

Reinforces my understanding that the people are way more intelligent than the current leadership believes. I don't think the people want violence because they are smart enough to know that everyone...

They may know what they're doing, but the seem oblivious of the natural consequences of those actions. Thailand could be on the verge of their own Bastille Day.

  27. News: Re: 21 Charged Over Former Govt's 'Fraudulent' Rice Sale

They can "feel" whatever, but their moves are actually increasing opposition.
  28. News: View Post

They are at war with their own people, which is what coups are all about; supplanting the will of the electorate by means of force. All of the "clean-ups" and "crackdowns are focused on groups who...
  29. News: View Post

This is interesting because, by presuming to decide the fate of a former PM loved by the people, they are, in a sense, deciding their own fate.
  30. News: Re: 'Impeachment good for reconciliation'

You really couldn't make this stuff up. Reconciliation, in junta-speak, is defined as the inverse of the generally accepted definition. Can anyone say, "Emperor's New Clothes?"
  31. News: Re: Prayuth Vows to Bring "Smiles" To 2010 Crackdown Site

"The government is doing everything to make the people happy," except allowing the people to determine their own destiny.
  32. News: Re: Parties to escape dissolution for 'overthrow of democracy'

A charter being drafted by a non-elected government seeks to protect democracy by limiting political freedom; now, that's rich.

Utilize the social network to exert subtle influence would be a likely option.
  35. News: Re: Prayuth Preparing 'Surprise' For National Children's Day

"The main highlight will be military parade and display of weaponry by the Thai armed forces."

Re: The Emu story-Building a Home in Thailand

Thais are, in general, not as confrontational or direct as we from the West. Giving harsh orders, issuing ultimatums, and punishing are anathema to most because it is seen as creating unnecessary...
  37. News: Re: Thai Constitution Drafters Pave Way For Unelected PM

He's a legend in his own mind.
  38. News: Re: Thai Constitution Drafters Pave Way For Unelected PM

It is treason, or at least a high crime against the people. People in democratic countries elect people to govern, not to rule or dictate.
  39. Visitor Warning: Re: Know Your Rights if a Policeman Stops you in Bangkok

I never spend more than a day or two in Bangkok (embassy business). I enjoy freedom from police harassment in Isaan. I have only been stopped at standard checkpoints there; never just walking around.
  40. News: Re: Prime Minister Prayuth Threatens to Shut Down Thai Newspaper for Criticising Him

    Childish, to state the least.
  41. News: Re: Thai Constitution Drafters Pave Way For Unelected PM

I've never seen a political group so afraid of elections. They are always going on about how popular they are, with one bogus poll after another coming along to prop up the illusion. It seems to me...
