Think of a cow, and think of what comes out the rear end. Now let it dry and you have the cow equivalent of a buffalo chip.

I got that. But how does F. know what it tastes like to compare?

P.S.: I remember when I was a kid I'm terrified of durian. And then suddenly it don't bother me no more. I kinda like it in other stuffs such as ice-cream and birthday cake. But eating it straight don't do nuthin' for me. Compared to others durian is not that ful-filling.

i totally love durians! they are delicious! i didnt like it while growing up because it smelt like fart to me but then i guess after eating it and becoming accustomed to devouring it in time, the odor doesn't bother my senses anymore.

about durian and its health effects? well...it makes sense not to drink alcohol because of scientific reason that someone already mentioned earlier. But i definitely do not believe in taboos or superstitious stories at all. -_-

Whilst performing my science experiments on grade 1+2 kids durian came in very handy on 3 counts in blindfold testing. Touch, smell and taste. I suppose every Thai kid knows what durian looks like and some might be experts when you hit them with a stick to check for ripeness so I could have used the king of fruits for all of my experiments for the senses.

Anyway the class was pretty unanimous on the smell vote but split on the taste vote, the only problem with the blindfold was all the rest of the kids upon seeing durian had to shout it out at the top of their voices at which point the kids would either run or try to devour it.

Personally I think it is delicious, especially when just opened and cut, it does definately spoil during the day. And it is true if you eat it with mangosteens it is much better, the juice if the mangosteens cleans your palate andyou can eat more.

I've these crazy tot, should hv include durian in Fear Factor reality show. Blindfolded the participants and see what is their reaction of smelling the King of fruit.
By the way, I would say those who r not tropical countries origin and willing to taste durian are adventurous.

    Re: fried durian

Lol Speedo, you should submit it to the show =D

When i was a child i could not stand the smell. It makes me nauseous.. I can't tell how it smells but it had the same effect on me as freshly leathered furniture or a brand new car.

But when I started to eat it, I love it! especially as a topping for desserts or cakes (that's delicious with whipping cream). however, durian flavored-candies or ice cream is a big NO NO. it's concentrated and artificial, awful.

Otherwise, I never tried it fried! I wonder how it tastes...

and talking about folks beliefs, in Cambodia, some believe that eating mangosteen (the pulp or the peel) with sugar will kill you ^^ and like any superstition, people who claimed it said they knew from their cousins who was told by his friend who witnessed his uncle dying just after eating it. My brother tried it in front of the house people and we tease them since then.
