Re: How long does 1000 baht last?
My limit here is set to about 100 to 200 baht a day. I'm hosted though, so I don't have all the living expenses on my shoulder. If I go to Chiang Mai or Bangkok I will spend a few thousand baht. That's only cause I don't ever get the chance to a whole lot. I rarely spend 50 baht on snacks and lunch, and the occasional breakfast, when I don't eat at home. Max it's about 70 baht for snacks and all that jazz.
I'll be really surprised to see what will happen with my money if I follow through my plan to stay 4 more years to study at ABAC (BangNa).

Re: How long does 1000 baht last?
Well for most of the year I've had a nice cushion from the bonus I recieved from my last job. The thing is I'm an impulse buyer, so 1st I bought a iPod for 15000, then I got 2 tattoos this came to a total of 20,000 (extravagant I know but I think they look great and I'm going to get more one day).
However this has left me on the bones a bit and it looks like we might not get paid for a couple of months because we are changing jobs and moving house etc.
The upshot is we looked into our finances and what we spend a week minimum. Its basically food.
Breakfast Khao Tom 10B
Lunch Ba Mii or kapow with egg 20/25B
Tea kapow with egg and pad pak bung fai deang 50B + soda 10B abottle
This is for monday-friday so if I don't have a beer in the week we could go on 450B during the school week each. That would leave us with 550B for the w/e and for internet fees (10-15B a day). So feasably we could easily live on 1000B a week. Problem is I'm not the man with everything, and I want everything and everything costs. So a frugal few weeks and then its payday.

Re: How long does 1000 baht last?
As a tourist I found I needed around 2,000 per day in Bangkok but living here you soon find out that 1,000 baht is a lot of money. I think it is pretty easy to manage on between 150-200 baht per day, but it all depends on what you can put up with, sleep rough, eat out of bins and drink rain water and you may not need any money!

Re: How long does 1000 baht last?
Chiang mai is definatley cheaper than Bangkok. i was only spending B200 a day in chiang mai. When i got to know Bangkok tho i found out i could last on about b300 a day and thats including hostel prices lol, if you can stand living without aircon you can have a lot more money to spend or save... up to you. peaches guest house was b120 a night and the fan was pretty good, they had showers not always hot water but who needs hot water when it 40 degrees outside. also depends if you drink every night. couple of beers a day is always good. if you want a beer go to the 7/11 they are alot cheaper than the bars. spent many of nights on khao san road with my thai friends

There is always ways of living for cheap in thailand just gotta keep looking. thailand is a hard place to crack!

Re: How long does 1000 baht last?
Truth is,
if you stay per month and a guest house cost you 10,000bth(330bht a day) a month all in and you spent around 200bht a day on food, your already at around 500bht a day!,
this is with out any other spending and eating for 50bht per meal, now remember many thais earn 6000bht a month!
thats 200bht a day, food and rent and not just for them included!
so i think if your in Thailand as a westerner having to live on that amount you are not going to be a happy bunny!
so i think 1000bht can last 2 days and if your in Thailand with less than 15000bht per month i think i would be in trouble and unhappy and better off going home,
but that's my opinion, if you can survive on less and enjoy yourself good luck to you, i would not bother with that type of hardship, when as a English person i have the advantage of going home to earn decent money.

Re: How long does 1000 baht last?
come on,
i believe what your telling me,
but now you can not get a room with a fridge or TV in Bangkok for under 5000bht a month, probably bills on top of this also,Thailand is the land of smiles, not of dreams,
and a shared room in a hostel? not for me,
probably 7000bht inclusive of bills i would say cheapest you ll get in Bangkok, so 1000bht for a week in bkk, 142bht a day food and lodge is dreaming.
i stay for a long time when i stay in Thailand, i dont have a very tight budget but i do take care of my spending and some days you go without spending hardly anything,
but if you stop and add every thing up on a cheap day i think you would still be suprised how it all adds up.and again you cant get away from rent and food costs.

Ian, get out of filthy, noisy, expensive Bangkok, and it will be different. David's rent of course was not a Bangkok figure....

Re: How long does 1000 baht last?
1000 bths is normally good for 3-4 days for foods...in Bkk, "for me"
Below is my normal course
main dish......40 bths/ plate - at any local food venue
drink............10-15 bths/ a glass - orange or coconut slurpy normally
appitizer/or dessert.......20-30 bths/ plate or bag
So all in all I would say no more than 100 bths/for a very yummy meal.
I'm not on a budget, but just knowing the value of a very tasty meal can be had locally at reasonably priced.
