the new chat room looks very pretty but there are a couple of things not as good as the previous version.
after clicking on someones name you then have to click again on the message window to start typing. It is not a major problem but really annoying if you type a long message only to then see that it has not appeared in the window.
there is no message highlighting. there are 14 people in the room as i write this, any messages to me were easy to spot before, now i have to read every line to see if any are for me.
the profile page on the previous chat room was great. you could learn so much about a person before you spoke to them. Now it is so brief with no obvious way to view a photo that it does not appear to be worth viewing.
i am sure there are other issues but i have only just got this new chatroom working on my computer.
i hope to find somethings that are better than the old room soon.

If there are a lot of people, you can always invite people to join you in one of the other public rooms on the right.

Not many people, including yourself, have updated their profiles. There is a lot you can do. Picture, biography, interests, websites, messenger addresses etc. We will do our best to promote this more.

I largely agree with you peterg......but I dont think you are considering factors like the the education level (or emotional maturity) of some native speakers......especially in chat rooms. I must admit that I have chatted to many whom I sincerely thought were only learning english.....but discovered that they were "native" to the language.
Even I must confess that in the informal yet often hectic banter of the chat room, I have often sinned regarding spelling, grammar and contextual accuracy. Personally, I just choose to enjoy the interplay of human interaction and try to be forgiving of the errors of others and find the humour in any situation that allows it.
I think that if we natives can generally set a good example with our language, mentor those attempting to learn and try not to sound superior by correcting every little infraction.....we do the international net community a service.

I was a member of tcb before with the sreenname gerrie.
I made a new account for the new chatroom and changed my name to scooby. I didn't get an e-mail for conformation and when i try to login i get you're banned. Please can somebody help me.

Qn 1) When I log on in TCB I cannot view any of the users profiles. Msg. "You
are not permitted to access..etc" Can you tell me how I can access?

Qn 2) Sometimes I cannot key in and the cursor doesn't work..for several seconds or even minutes. Is this a problem at my side or TCB?? Thanks..

Not to be repetitive ;but the freezing of the screen, "the revolving door" (getting kick out and trying to get back in),and the 2 pm restart are ,I believe,having a negative affect on the tcb. I noticed a drop in chat activity. It is frustrating for people to be stuck in these situations and eventually give up trying to enter.
It just seems to me the reputation of the Box is compromised with these gliches. IMO
