Re: All Websites about Thai movies

Thank you for posting the links, Anatta. However, there's a big problem with Thai Cinema, it's the absence of a complete movie database, going from the very first Thai movie ever produced to current productions, with details on every film and the cast & crew credits.
Of course, Thailand is not the only country in this situation, I was unable to find complete databases for other Asian countries like Cambodia and the Philippines. But such a database does exist for Korea, for instance.
This lack of informations is a tragedy for Thai culture, and I'm almost certain that so many films of the past were "lost" due to the absence of informations upon their existence.
Of course, since some years, with international triumph of movies like "Nang Nak" and others, Thai movies are much appreciated in many countries, including France, where an amount of your movies are released in theaters then on video. We saw these movies in their original language (generally), with French subtitles. So, we can assume than recent Thai movies will be preserved for posterity.
But the problem remains : what about the older movies ? some of them are probably available on VCDs, I have for instance an early version of "Mae Nak Prakhanong", but it's not a very old movie, perhaps 15 or 20 years old - no more. What about Thai movies produced during the silent era, for instance ? or the very first versions of Krai Thong, Krasue, etc. I'm mentioning these titles because I'm specialized in Fantasy, Horror and Science Fiction films (I write about them since the 1950s, so as you can guess I'm not very young myself) but of course, this post concerns every Thai film of any genre.

Just a question. I have some Thai posters of fantasy / horror films and was unable to identify them. I could "scan" these posters and put them on a blog, could anyone (eventually) identify these movies (by title, director's name, actors, and other elements mentioned on the poster). Thanks in advance...

You could do that. I am also interested to see the scan of the poster By the way, I think the forum has a rule about linking to your blog, I think you should put link back to the forum from your own blog as well or you can also just attached the scan photo your the post.

Thank You, TK Onboard ! incidentally, as English is not my birth language, I made a mistake in writing "my blog", I mean a link to the poster, which is heberged in a website. In any case, this is the poster (you can click for a lerger image) :

Hope somebody can identify this movie (I'll send others later). I would be pleased to have the phonetical transcribtion of the title, its English translation eventually, and some of the names written on the poster (director, stars, etc.)

Re: All Websites about Thai movies

These are the translations of thai script from the poster. However, I cannot confirm that the English spelling of every thai names here are correct because there are different transliteration system, but I found, by googled, that at least the main actress/actor, most of the time, have the same English spelling as I have here. (I use blue letter for every names appeared in the poster.)

    ------------------------------------------
    (Yellow text, top left)
    พี.เอส.พิคเจอร์
    [PS Picture]

    --------------------------------------------

Actress with 2 'Tuk-ka-Ta Thong' awards: THIDA THERARAT meet EKAPAN BUNLUERIT

So the main actor is EKAPAN BUNLUERIT and main actress is THIDA THERARAT

note: Tuk-ka-Ta Thong award (literally means 'golden doll' award) is one of Thai movie award, the official name of the award is รางวัลพระสุรัสวดี.

Re: All Websites about Thai movies

ืI just found that this movie was released in 1995 (B.E. 2538). (I thought poster looks very old, obviously it is not that old )

    Hi Sweeney Todd !

Go to the Website of ethaiCD.com where you can order Thai Movies as VCD or DVD.

    http://www.ethaicd.com

By clicking on any Movie you get Informations about Actor etc. in Thai & English.

    They also have a special section about Movies from the 50's - 70's and 80's - 90's.
Fun browsing the Movies and look at the Infos. Some Movies are still available for buying.
Have a look at the Links:

And there is also a special Collection of "Mitr Chaibuncha", he was one of the famoust Actors long time ago and died an early age:

Re: All Websites about Thai movies

Thank you Djaidee, for your help. I have ordered from this site in the last months, and they are very reliable.
But the main problem remains. Most of the time, these sites mention some of the actors, eventually the date of release, but no more. The director, for instance, is practically never mentioned and this can create some confusion, especially for someone not familiarized with the Thai language. Several friends of mine ordered, for instance, the same film under different titles, as it was translated differently (this being a permanent problem, as you know).
In recent times, some producers initiated the "bi-lingual" credits on their prints, in Thai and English. So the problem, generally, doesn't exists for recent movies (apart from some very obscure titles) but, as I said before, what we need is a complete database of all Thai movies ever produced since the silent era... a dream ?
