กาลครั้งหนึ่งนานมาแล้ว ยังมีเจ้าชายหนุ่มผู้หยิ่งยโสองค์หนึ่งอยู่ในพระราชว ังที่ใหญ่โตมโหฬารพร้อมด้วยทาสรับใช้มากมาย ค่ำคืนหนึ่งในฟดูหนาวที่เย็นยะเยือก มีหญิงขอทานชราคนหนึ่งมายืนอยู่ที่หน้าประตูและวอนขอ เข้ามาในพระราชวัง นางถือดอกกุหลาบแสนสวยอยู่ในมือและนางต้องการจะมอบกุ หลาบดอกนี้ให้กับเจ้าชายถ้าพระองค์ให้ที่พักแก่นางใน คืนนี้ แต่เจ้าชายกับบอกว่า "ไปให้พ้นยายเฒ่าโสครก" ดังนั้น หญิงขอทานจึงพูดว่า "ฟังนะ เจ้าชาย ความงามที่แท้จริงมักจะซ่อนอยู่ภายใน" แต่เจ้าชายกับหัวเราะนาง ทันใดนั้นเอง หญิงขอทานชราก็กลายเป็นนางฟ้าผู้เลอโฉมไปต่อหน้าต่อต าเขา บรรดาข้ารัยใช้ทั้งหมดของเขาก็พลอยถูกสาบป็นสิ่งของต ่างๆ ไปด้วยและเจ้าชายจะต้องอยู่แต่ในพระราชวังของเขาเท่า นั้นแต่เขาสามารถมองเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นภายนอกได้จา กกระจกวิเศษของเขา ก่อนที่นางฟ้าผู้วิเศษจะหายตัวไป เธอได้มอบดอกกุหลาบให้เจ้าชายแล้วบอกว่า "กุหลาบดอกนี้จะบานอยู่จนกระทั่งถึงวันที่ท่านมีอายุ ครบยี่สิบเอ็ดมี จากนั้น มันก็จะร่วงโรยไปเรื่อยๆ แต่ถ้าท่านตกหลุมรักใครคนหนึ่งและทำให้คนคนนั้นรักท่ านตอบได้สำเร็จก่อนที่จะถึงวันนั้น ท่านก็จะพ้นจากคำสาบนี้ แต่ถ้าท่านทำไม่สำเร็จ ท่านก็จะต้องกลายเป็นอสูรร้ายไปจนวันตาย"

Once upon a time an arrogant young prince lived in a huge palace with many servants. One cold winter evening, an old beggar woman stood beford the door and asked to be let in. In her hand she held a beautiful rose. She wanted to give this rose to the prince if he gave her shelter for the night. But the prince said, "Go away, you horrible woman" So the beggar said, "Listen prince, often true beauty is hidden behind what the eyes cannot see." But the prince only laughed at her. Then before his very eyes the old beggar turned into a beautiful fairy. And as punishment for his pride and his unkind nature she turned the prince into a horrible beast. And all his servants were turned into different objects. The prince had to remain in his palace. Only in his magic mirror could he see what was happening in the world outside.

Before the magician disappeared, she gave the prince the rose and said, "This rose will bloom till your 21st birthday, then it will wither. If you are succussful in falling in love and being loven by then, you will be released. If not, you will remain in animal form till the end of your life"

เวลาผ่านไปหลายปี..................
ในหมู่บ้านเล็กๆแห่งหนึ่งมีหญิงสาวคนหนึ่งชื่อ แบลล์ อาศัยอยู่ เธอเป็นหญิงสาวที่สวยและน่ารักที่สุดในหมู่บ้าน
เธอมีหน้าที่ดูแลมอริซ พ่อของเธอซึ่งเป็นนักประดิษฐ์ที่ทำงานหามรุ่งหามค่ำแ ละประสบความสำเร็จ เวลาที่แบลล์ ไม่ได้ทำอาหารให้พ่อของเธอหรือล้างจานอยู่ เธอก็จะใช้เวลาว่างไปอ่านหนังสือ ดังนั้นจึงไม่น่าแปลกใจเลยที่สถานที่โปรดแห่งหนึ่งขอ งเธอก็คือร้านหนังสือนั่นเอง

Years passed……….
In a small village there lived a young girl called Belle. She was the prettiest and sweetest girl in the whole village. She looked after her father Maurice, who was an untiring but successful inventor. If Belle was not washing for her father she would spend time reading. So it wasn’t surprising that the bookstore was one of her favourite places.

กาสตอง​ ​นายพรานรูปหล่อก็อาศัย​อยู่​ใน​หมู่บ้านนี้​ด้ วย​ ​เขา​หลงรักแบลล์อย่างหัวปักหัวปำ​เขา​ได้​ป่าวประกา ศไป​ทั่ว​ว่า​ ​กาสตอง​ผู้​หญิง​ใหญ่​จะ​แต่งงาน​กับ​แบลล์​ใน​วันห นึ่ง​ ​แต่​แบลล์​ไม่​ได้​สนใจกาสตองเลยแม้​แต่น้อย​เพราะ​ เขา​ดี​แต่ชอบโอ้อวด​ ​เธอคิดว่าหนังสือของเธอน่าสนใจกว่า​เขา​มากนัก ​

In the village there also lived the handsome hunter, Gaston. He was head over heels in love with Belle. He would proclaim all over, that he great Gaston, would one day marry Belle. But Belle was not at all interested in Gaston. He was just a show-off. She found her books much more interesting.

วันหนึ่ง มอริซรู้สึกตื่นเต้นมาก เขาวิ่งหน้าตั่งพร้อมกับตระโกนขึ้ว่า “พ่อจะขี่ม้าเอาสิ่งประดิษฐ์ชิ้นใหม่ของพ่อไปร่วมงาน สิ่งประดิษฐ์ บางทีพ่ออาจจะกวารางวันที่หนึ่งมาก็ได้นะ พ่อจะได้เลิกกังวลเรื่องเงินๆ ทองๆ ซะที” จากนั้น เขาก็เอาสิ่งประดิษฐ์ของเขาขึ้นบรรทุกบนรถลาก และดึงบังเหียนฟิลิปป์ ม้าที่ซื่อสัตย์ของเขาพร้อมกับร้องสั่งให้มันออกวิ่ง แล้วก็ออกเดินทางไป “ขอให้โชคดีนะคะ พ่อ” แบลล์ร้องบอกขณะที่โบกมือลา

One day father Maurice was very excited. He ran helter skelter yelling, “I’m driving to the Invention Fair with my invention. And maybe I’ll win the first prize. Then I can say good-bye to all my worries about money”
He then loaded his invention onto the cart, pulled the reins on his loyal horse Philippe, said giddy-up and rode away. “Best of luck, Papa,” Belle said and waved goodbye to him.
