Re: The Girlfriend
Its already the new millennium. What do you think?
Those "Thai girls" you heard about? What are they working as?
Although yes, being a foreigner, you've to be cautious there're gold diggers around.
I heard its the same thing in Singapore.
Trust? As much as you can trust those celebrities performing on those charity stunts crying they're sincerly doing it for charity.
I think you're hanging with the wrong crowd. If your woman is a decent working lady, there's really nothing to worry about. I can only assume your concern came about because she's from a undesirable background.
But I understand. Damn, if my girlfriend is Paula, I won't be asking these silly questions as well.

Re: The Girlfriend
Ya, you are quite right, it is the new millennium, maybe i am still quite old fashion and relatively conservative in my thinking.
The girls that i heard are those that work in sleazy places or even ordinary girls that need money fast to pay off debts. Thailand is quite well known for its sex industry. I have to admit i really do not have much (or any) money, not a single bit qualified to be a gold minefield.
In my opinion (again, maybe i am just too shallow), girls in singapore are generally more educated and able to take jobs that pay pretty well. So they do not have to resort to other methods even if they are materialistic. Again, i am be wrong, pls do not flame me. I know trusting someone is difficult, but i believe in trusting a person before that person can trust you. Of course i would not be so naive to trust 100%.
Thanks a lot BUCKY!Last edited by johncjn; 28-12-07 at 11:08 PM.

Re: The Girlfriend
John, you are walking right on the line now. I know you mean no harm, but please be careful and a little more subtle discussing the issues that are not "family friendly", as the owner of this website likes to put it. thank you.

Re: The Girlfriend
"Are american girls from New York very casual about love and sex? I know some people will reply "it depends" but I want to know in general. Would they commit to a relationship and stay faithful?"
Fixed it for you
To answer what I believe you are asking.
I seen numerous such relationships since I started going to Thailand and of those not working out its generally because of the farang and not because of the girl.
I certainly wouldnt advise anyone to just start sending their cash to someone they just known but the fact remains that if your partner will stop working you will have to support her.
The odds are pretty good that she wont be able to get another job which will cover her bills.
As for the hm faithfullness I lost count of how many times I had to deny that my dear friend mr Farang was in Thailand even tho I knew he had returned same flight as me.
Not saying there arent predators among the girls too.
I believe what Im saying is farang/thai relationship litterary is about different worlds and sometimes we tend to forget that.

Re: The Girlfriend
Let me give you an example from my own marriage.
My wifes parents are quite old and retired. They have no income and rely on their children to support themselves. That obviously includes my wife.
While some couples dont support their parents like we do for whatever reason, most thais will do it (assuming there is need ofc). Thats just a fact and its something thats not easily changed.
So in my opinion its something I have to accept (and have chosen to do) just as I accept other things as facts.

Re: The Girlfriend
Last I heard, people all over the world are having sex at a much younger age. So I don't really understand what you meant by "Are Thai girls from Bangkok very casual about love and sex?"
I rest my case.
The problem with S'porean men is that most of the Thai women they get to know are from that particular "entertainment industry". So what do you expect of from these women? They are in need of money in the first place thats why they're working in this line. What do you expect from them?
Thats only cos you spend too much time in that particular part of S'pore.
Then you really don't have anything to worry about except they taking every last bit of your savings and then saying sayonara to you isn't it?
Better salary yes, but better education I'm not so sure about it. If you've ever been to Thailand, you should know there're more Universities in Thailand than the JC of S'pore. However quality of education is another topic.
Thats why I'm saying you're spending too much time in that area or with men hanging out that area. Get this straight, those Thai women in that area don't represent the majority of Thai women.
I can only say you're silly if you go trust those women in that area.
You're welcome.
