susano,
You could have a look at this website:
http://womenlearnthai.com/index.php/...learning-thai/
There's enough free learning material to keep you occupied for ages....

Re: How do I start learning Thai?
Thanks for the link Eric67. I did look there but it seems like a lot of the sites that actually seem to have enough to learn from just throw it all at you without giving any explanations. I think I'll try them again once I've finished up to Intermediate learning(probably through the Becker books).

Re: How do I start learning Thai?
Hi...i tried many ways to learn too. i even bought a dictionary but i cant seem to pronounce the words. I am using "the thai translator" on my iphone which you can identify by the TTT on the icon in app store. its help alot cos I jus key in the english words and it translate with both the pronounciations and the thai words. so even if i dont pronounce it correctly....i can just show them the thai words. Working well for me when i'm clubbing, eating or taking a taxi. Hope this helps....

Re: How do I start learning Thai?
I can't hardly read my doctor's handwriting, and she's using my native language.

One thing I've found useful with Thai is to practice your own penmanship. It's not a perfect way to learn to read others' handwriting, but as you become more comfortable writing the characters, you become more comfortable seeing messy Thai. If that makes any sense.
