Yi Peng is better known as Loy Krathong. celebrations will take place from Nov 23-25 (Fri-Sun) this year - at full moon.

    Re: YI PENG festival

the parades and festivities take place 23-25. pretty crowded and busy, but not nearly as horrible as in Bangkok, and very different too. the shows and processions are in the evening and at night, so you'll have time during the day to do sightseeing if you want to. the days before and after the 3 days feature fire lanterns and a festival mood all over the place (very much like the period between Christmas and New Year back home, actually), but the parades and cultural shows etc. don't extend beyond the 3 days. lots of tourists come for the festival, even Thais, so make sure you book in time, and don1t count on a solitary experience.
(I hope the usual schedule doesn1t change - I've been here 3 times for Loy krathong and this seems to be the normal course of events, doesn1t matter if it's weekend or during the week. amazingly, it's not official holidays....)

    Hi ElySIuM,

Feb18-22 to Hanoi at RM300 inclusive of tax - very cheap. Book guest house and stay in baot in Ha Long Bay (USD35).
Apr13 to ChiangMai - Laos (LuangPrabang) - SipsongPanna (China) - Burma - ChiangMai. Going further and further.
June 2 BKK - Cambodia (cross border near Ko Chang) - fly back from PhomnPenh (I just follow friend & his Cambodian wife)
    So November is still OPEN.

I would love to join your group. Best to have 4-5 people, then we can rent a car and share cost. Count me one (1).

I have 22 days of annual leave this year.
