The Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific (NACA) is an intergovernmental organization (currently 17 member governments) supporting responsible aquaculture development throughout the Asia-Pacific region (more details at The headquarters of the organization is hosted by the Royal Government of Thailand at the Department of Fisheries, Bangkok.

Following the recent decisions of the Governing Council, NACA will increase its work to assist small-scale aquaculture farmers in the region organize into groups and improve market access. In relation to this initiative, NACA is seeking a qualified Thai shrimp farm specialist to join the NACA team and assist in work with improving practices and market access for small-scale shrimp farming groups in Thailand.

The Terms of Reference for the position are:

1. To assist in assessing and identifying small-scale shrimp farmer groups to participate in NACA market access initiatives.

2. To conduct audits of present farming practices against market standards, international principles and management practices and identify necessary improvements for compliance.

3. To provide training and technical assistance in organization of small-scale farmer groups and improve capacity of farmers and farmer groups to adopt management practices to apply standards necessary to meet modern market requirements such as certification and hygienic standards.

4. To establish record keeping and reporting procedures among participating farmers and groups as required for auditing, certification, trace-ability and other documentation in line with market access requirements.

5. To collaborate with environmental monitoring programs.

6. To participate in meetings with farmers and partners as required to present and discuss project results.

7. To prepare progress reports as needed to NACA and other project stakeholders.

The specialist will have a suitable academic background and demonstrated practical experience in shrimp farming in Thailand. He/she should be able to communicate effectively in Thai and English.

The appointment will be for an initial period of 6 months, starting as soon as possible, with opportunities for extension. Salary and working conditions will be in line with NACA norms. The successful candidate will be expected to work for substantial period of time in the field, with some time spent in NACA Headquarters in Bangkok.
