Re: Thai citizens who wish to visit the U.S.A.
Thank you all for your feedback. My friend got advice which led her to believe that I would have to sponsor her. In retrospect I agree that my support documents probably didn't help her at all, so my invitation only brought her grief. Unfortunately I can't recommend that she spend another U.S. $100 + to try again. It's an expensive game of roulette. I'm making arrangements to visit Thailand this Fall and work on our relationship from there. I'll also visit the embassy and hopefully get a sense of the application process directly. It's quite a research project which I'm pursuing here in the states as well. Wish me luck.

To Khun WBR,
Tell your friend to visit this website http://www.pantip.com/cafe/klaibann/ and choose subject วีซ่าประเทศต่างๆ . Tell her to post for help about visa.
There is a webboard that help Thai about Visa.

Re: Thai citizens who wish to visit the U.S.A.
wbr ...it is a long and frustrating process. Sorry you're dealing with this. I went through this 4 years ago. I was so naive thinking that it would be easy to bring my three thai exchange siblings over to visit. Coincidentally, I was in BKK the month before they were to come to the US and we spent 5-6 hours a day for two weeks in the embassy. Through the long delays, paperwork, lines, etc. we got to know several groups of friends in similar situations. I even went over the the US side and asked what I could do. While they gave me some busy work to feel like I was helping, they acknowleged that there was little I could do to change the situation. In the end, two were granted tourist visas (they only came for a week!!) and one was denied.
I know our government is all hyped up on homeland secruity right now.... but don't we care anything at all about the tourist industry??

Re: Thai citizens who wish to visit the U.S.A.
I was speaking of tourists coming to America. Don't we want a tourist industry? Don't we want "people who'll pay to buy over-priced silly dolls in their survenior shops" ??
