    Becker's writing of

On page 141 of Thai for Beginners, it appears that (the big one) is drawn wrong. The writing practice (dashed line) versions look right. Is this just an alternate way to draw it, or is it a mistake?

I think that they just used a different Font.

There are very stylish Thai Fonts that you can hardly recognize the Letters.

10/10 for observation but it looks fine to me leosmith. If 100 people wrote the same English word, then there would be 100 different writing styles and the letters would look slightly different but the word would still read the same.

It's the same with Thai language. There are many different fonts and writing styles but the alphabet is still the same. It's just something that you will get used to in time.

    Good luck learning Thai language.

I am just curious and wondering how does the look like in the book? (I don't have the book) Ιs it possible to scan just that letter or explain how does it make you think it was wrong?

I scanned it, but it didn't come out because it's too close to the binding. But let me describe it, because a word is worth 1/1000 of a picture. Imagine you are drawing the character. It has 3 high points. When you reach the 2nd high point, Becker's picture shows the line going straight down to the bottom. The "normal" font has a little bump after the 2nd high point, like taaw-montoo. Clear as mud?

Hmm, I had to read this a couple of times, after looking at my book and wondering what you where on about.

I agree with the others who say that this is a minor stylistic difference. Anyway, it's an obsolete letter.

I think khun leosmith is referring to the bend I marked with red circle.

    Doesn't bother me much though.

    Hi Siamkhaek !

What you mean an "obsolete" Letter, that it is not used anymore ?

Or that it is not so common anymore, because there are quite some words using this Letter.

Hmm, I think it was me that mistakenly called it obsolete. Sorry.
