Bankok and Pattaya, but not Thailand.
I have been here 7 years and never been in a bar, and am still learning new things about this place everyday.
Last time I was in Thailand, I met another Australian guy who'd spent every day of his forthnight long trip holding up the same bar in Patong. He said he'd had the most brilliant time! I suppose that's better, at least, than the people who go to the over-priced tourist resorts, sloth around by the pool, then say Thailand is OK but nothing special.

    Nude beaches?

There are no nude beaches in Thailand. 99% of Thais are very conservative and are embarrassed by overly brief bathing costumes. When in Thailand I go swimming in a T shirt and either knee length bathers or fishermen's pants.

Not to mention public nudity is illegal.

Re: One week in Thailand, enought time?

Wow, thanks for the all quick replys here guys and gals. Looks like a very friendly forum indeed. I have family duties to do in Australia so canceling that leg of my journey is a no do im affriad. In oz im planning on a spending a week in sydney, then flying to Cairns seeing barrier reef and a bit of the rainforest, then an ozexpereince trip to Alice Spring through the desert, then spend a few days at Ayres rock then flying onto Thailand. So hopefully although only a short trip will still get to see quite alot of Oz and not just cities.

I'm going to check out some of your suggestions and do a bit of research, but if anyone else has any ideas please feel free to post or PM me.

if you have such a short time in Thailand, I would suggest looking around in Bangkok - definitely worth it especially if you hadn't been in this part of the world, and then going on to Kanchanaburi for nature / elephants / tiger patting zoo / waterfalls.

thanks again for all the input im still not decided on where to go however. I'm thinking of staying around bangkok and not traveling so fat (got enough crammed into the oz trip) would still like to see some beach for a day or two? Can anyone recomend decent beaches near to Bangkok? Also can anyone recommend hostels in Bangkok as i would like to meet people easily while im there.
