Southern areas on flood alert

(BangkokPost.com) – Many parts of Nakhon Sri Thammarat Province are under water following days of consecutive rainfall. The flooding has already prompted the closure of one local school in Sichon district for safety reasons.

Meanwhile, the governor of Surat Thani Province, Winai Buapradit has warned residents in all 149 risk areas to brace themselves for an emergency evacuation should it become necessary.

Authorities are closely monitoring possible mudslides and flash floods especially around major beach destinations such as Samui and Phang-ngan islands and Khao Sok National Park.

Fishermen were urged to exercise caution as were ferry and boat operators.
