Re: Lao Alphabet
Kop Jai is widely used In everyday language by my wife and her family who live just outside Bangkok in Samutprakarn. It is a term that is used very frequently in Bangkok and indeed all of Thailand.

Re: Lao Alphabet
Because in Thailand…
if somebody is older than you , you say “thank you ” to you he/she will say “kòp jai” this is polite and right in Thailand as like as “kòp koon” .
If somebody says “Thank You” to their friend they can say”kòp koon“or” kòp jai” , this is right too.
If somebody says “Thank You” to someone they respect or older than them they will use “kop koon” or “kòp prá koon” not use “ kòp jai“.

Re: Lao Alphabet
The above was a qoute from the link that I posted. This is the part which Igotnotime decided to leave out of his post.Maybe because it backs up the point I was making that Kop Jai is an everyday widely used term for thankyou.
It does seem that you have to try and prove your"knowledge" to some people when in fact all you are trying to do is share it.

Re: Lao Alphabet
Mat I truly do not understand where the hostility is coming from, nor do I understand where you think we disagree.
I am sorry you feel the need to go to battle over nothing at all, I don't feel this way. I don't have a reply to any of your most recent comments, one thing that usually helps me to understand the context of what is being said is to read previous posts. Post #20 reads almost exactly the same as what you are saying. The bashing of my comments is ok with me I really don't mind, I put my time in, however for people here who think I am trying to prove anything perhaps taking a look at #14 will clarify that is not the case, where I openly admit that Thai is fairly new to me.
I have said from the time you started saying I was wrong that I didn't get what you were saying because I have never said it was not used and thought we agreed on this fact. I said it was a Lao term and it was not used as often, so what exactly is the issue you think is so misleading? The very blog you posted said the exact same thing. What are you saying we disagree on because you are getting me very confused?

Re: Lao Alphabet
My reply was to point out that it is frequently used and not occasionally used. This forum is for people to learn to speak Thai and I was merely pointing out something which I have learned in the 15 years that I have been studying Thai.
There was no hostility from me,the only hostility seems to be coming from you as you do not seem to accept that Kop Jai is a very common and frequently used term for thankyou througout Thailand.

Re: Lao Alphabet
I cannot speak for other parts of Thailand, but apart from seeing it in language books and in Laos, I have hardly ever heard any Thai person use "kop jai". I have never also personally used it. But, that is not saying it is never used by other people. It is just not that common around here.
