No I am serious. Jing jing.

In Buriram Province it is popular dish in rice harvest season. This post shows my sister-in-law cooking one.

I like rice, barbecued rat and two fried eggs for breakfast. I am waiting for November when I should return to Buriram again.

I would imagine upcountry rat during rice season would be pretty good. Unlike "street" rats, their diet is acceptable (after all, rats are what they eat!).

The problem I have is that such things are typically more trouble than effort of preparation and picking the bones justifies. I gave up dove and quail for that reason.

I would say no more effort than a chicken. And they are probably easier to de-fur than plucking a chicken.

My favourite Thai dish is barbecued prawns اҧ with a nice marinate of spicy peanut sauce. Best eaten at sundown on a white sandy beach, with the waves lapping softly at your feet. I'm in heaven!

    ١ (kài lôok kŏie); = egg, ١ = son-in-law.
It was my favorite when I studied in boarding school (40 years ago) , the cook was quite old that time, she might be the best cook of this dish that I've ever eaten, she worked in one of the old palaces for long time.

My friends and I used to have fun guessing the reason behind this name, it could be something that a guy wanted to impress his mother-in-law, cooking a new dish of egg. Or mother-in-law wanted to please her favorite son-in-law with this new dish.

We have various egg dishes; boiled egg, fried egg, sunny-side-up, omelet, stuffed omelet, fried egg with curry paste, soft-boiled egg, salty egg, preserved egg, steamed egg, sweet egg (boiled in syrup), etc.

The list of my favorite Thai food is very long, but hardly find restaurants/cooks that are able to cook these dishes with good taste nowadays, complaint from one of the elders .

    Thanks Mel, appreciated, truly.
All the years I have been eating it never thought to look it up.
Must have got the pronunciation right though, because I never did have trouble getting what I wanted!
