    Is this unique?

I was looking for some information for a friend about border crossings from Thailand to Cambodia and when looking at a map found the one in Surin at Dan Phatanna.

A short way back from the border in Surin is a village called Kap Choeng กาบเชิง. But what struck me is that if you go from Kap Choeng and cross the border at Dan Phatanna the first village you come to on the Cambodian side is called Kap Choeng...

Is there anywhere else you know of that has two villages quite close together in different countries that have the same name or is this a unique occurence?

Could it be one village that was split by the border?

I don't think so, they would seem to be about 15 to 20 kilometres from each other. But a good thought.

Well there is a Freiburg in Germany and one in Switzerland, but they are not that close together: about 140km.
So I guess that's not exactly what you're looking for...?

That's another possibility, but they are both listed in the index as Kap Choeng (CAM) and Kap Choeng (THA). My map is the Rough Guides waterproof one.

No amount of Googling throws up any results for the one in Cambodia (but it is only a village - no amount of googling throws up any information for my village.)

Maybe there was a faction of dissatisfied Kap Choengians who had a dispute with their village and moved away to create their own village of the same name........? Only reason I can think of.

We have a couple of cities like that in the US... on the boarder between two different states. It is quite confusing and unfortunately one ends up being the 'more commonly known' and if you're from the other one...then sorry for you.
