    Wooden frog instrument

    Hello everyone,

I did a search in this forum but didn't come up with any results, hope someone can help me out.

This is a percussion musical instrument, it makes a sound when you scrape this wooden frog, hopefully you know what I mean. Hehe.

Where can I buy this in Bangkok, and what is the price like approximately?
    Thanks

any tourist-oriented market or street stall, in fact if you are walking on Khao San road (tourist area), you might have a hard time getting rid of the sellers who "scrape frog" in your ear. Chatuchak weekend market is probably a good source as well.

the price? in Chiang Mai, they go for 40 baht and up. no idea about BAngkok, things are always a lot more expensive there.

Actually, if you are in Malaysia, you might be able to get it there too.
I've seen them in markets in both KL and KK.
But if you want to buy one as a souvenir from Thailand, I'm quite sure that you can get them almost anywhere in BKK, like Betti mentioned.
    life is wonderful!

Definitely, what Betti says, I would be more difficult to leave Thailand without one if you spend any time in a touristy area.

Just curious, what is the official name of this frog scraping instrument, or do you have the link so one can see what it looks like? Thankx.

It is a type of instrument known as a guiro and is popular in Latin American music and doesn't have to be frog shaped. A guiro is basically a hollow percussion instrument with notches on the top that are scraped.

I bought a big one of those frogs as a gift for 150 Bath. They made a good sound. I bought when I was in Phuket. I should have gotten one for myself.

    Re: Wooden frog instrument

    Hi
What is the function of these wooden frogs? Do they have a place in the Thai culture or religion eg. warding away spirits? Is the frog a symbol of something?

Bought one myself a couple of years ago
