I think my favorite is Tom Mak Dtang, loaded with peanut & chilli (both dried/ground and fresh sliced). Not a huge fan of bpla ra, but don't mind extra fish sauce in the recipe. But I have NEVER had it with potato.

I only like mine Isaan style. If it is not made with bpla ra, it just isn't som tam to me. I don't like it with crabs, peanuts, shrimps or any of that stuff. Just papaya, tomato, bpla ra, MSG, and lots of prig ki nu. Som tam, bbq chicken, and sticky rice is one of my favorite meals of all time. Seb illi der.

For me it is Som Tam Thai, very spicy with Khao Neow, i like also to have some bbq pork with it. I don't realy mind it with the crabs either, but better with the dried shrimp and peanuts. Has to be spicy for me.

Re: What is your favourie som tam?

I just had one yesterday, my always favorite is crab som tam not sweet! People tend to add too much sugar. good somtam should be made from certain variety of papaya, which is khaeg nuan. So unfortunately some papaya good for green but not for ripe, some good for ripe but not for green.

I'm with you on the e-san style. I do like a little bit of crab in mine but i do not like shrimps or peanuts in it either. I also like the som tom using green mangos too

I think its salad style, som tam is the pounding lemonade or sour lemon pounded? I like the 3-4 chilies style with crab or " kapi ", sometime maybe little of pbla ra.Will try it at home.
