Or it could be slang...like doc ling. Thai?lao combo.....A.. plus Monkey. Depends on how its pronounced. Quite often thai/lao women will say the words to describe their so dearly loved farang husband. And, the husband thinks he's hearing "darling".

Thai people often make fun of English Words because there are many Thai Words which sound the same but have a funny meaning.

For example like lenss already mentioned

Darling = ดากลิง meaning "butt of a monkey"; ดาก is the Isaan/Lao Word for the Thai Word ก้น

    Another funny one is

Madame = หมาดำ meaning "black dog"

    I like that one.

There are some expressions like that in Japanese too.
You can say what sounds like "can you ski?", but actually means, "do you like big breasted women?"

I don't think so for this word, it should be Darkling not Darling for the word ดากลิง. I would say darling is used to call the one we love, which is well known for Thai women to call their husband more than other words such as honey or sweetheart.

Actually, I don't know what the TCB is though , he he he

TCB is ThaiChatBox, a chat room for people who are interested in Thailand and its culture. Why don't you check it out ? Just click on 'chat room' on top of the page and it will get you there. See you there!

Thank you for all your reply.

Here is the rest of the story. One of the chatter is a Thai lady. She was called "darling" by a man from England. She does not know him before so she told him not to call her that because she is not his darling. The man reply every man in England calls "darling" to a woman whom they talk.

I would like to see the expression on his face when his wife finds out about it. Or perhaps he is still looking for one.
