    Re: Steam Trains in Thailand

there is another engine at the end of the Kanchanaburi line, at Namtok Sai Yok Noi. not at the last station, but about a km up, right by the waterfall. it is number 702. not very easy to take pictures of because it is on top of a flight of stairs, and between two rocks.

It always makes me smile when I see the initials . . . written on the side of the 'steam' locomotives.

Betti. You always begin the sentence with 'a simple' letter. That strains the eye to read. Why don't you begin with 'a capital' which is standard English. I think, it is an important aspect when you teach your students.

    Just an idea. Don't misunderstand.

sorry about straining your eyes. I can assure you that when I teach, I use proper punctuation and capitalisation, even proper spelling. however, forums are different, the language is more relaxed. for me, lack of capitals means it is closer to spoken language, I often use run-on sentences as well, and it is intentional.
you can put me on your ignore list and then you don't have to read my posts ever again.

This is a reminder that the steam trip is tomorrow. I am going to go to take some pictures but won't do the two hour ride to Ayutthaya. I was originally going to go to Hua Lamphong station first to take pictures then take the MRT to Bang Sue junction where it is due to arrive at 8.21 a.m. (last year it arrived there at 8.37 a.m.). However, although it is a short trip by train, by MRT it goes the long way via 17 stations! The steam train will also pass Don Muang Station at 8.47 a.m. I haven't decided yet, but I will wait somewhere along the line.

this is the engine near Sai Yok Noi waterfall. the last station on the Kanchanaburi line is called Namtok, many tourists seem to be doing this 60 km or so stretch from Kanchanaburi town as part of their war-theme visit.
the engine is not at the station, but very near the waterfall itself, between two rocks. quite difficult to take pictures of.
