Well we could have done with all this great information 45 years ago , when we arrived in a small village 20 minutes north of Amnat, some of the soldiers all brand new whitey,s from Blighty, some of us old hands direct ftom the jungles of borneo,But i digress we were encouraged to visit the golden buddha on the hill above amnat, we also helped out where we could at the leper colony. We have watched the town grow over the years, and my english, australian and german children and grandchildren have inherited their grandads love of Isaan and anything thai, I like to think myself and my comrades made a difference to the area , with the concrete bridges and stretches of road we built , thanks for the info will passit on, Itsme

    Hi Itsme,

Thanks for the post and pictures.

One of the reoccurring comments I hear in Issan today is how the collective impact of Foreign Soldiers over the years has helped in the development of the Thai People living there. I have traveled to many countries and experienced the after-effects of the presence of Foreign Soldiers/Sailors stationed in those countries; not all of the places had positive opinions. Your collective and individual efforts in Issan appear to be the way things are supposed to happen in the world and I congratulate you for those efforts.
