Re: My Isaan dogs
Perhaps you could let me know how you permanently stop your neighbours dogs from barking. There's been many a time I've wished I could do that. I lived in a backwoods kind of town in Canada for a while where it seemed most people had dogs that barked all night long. I think the noise helped the locals get to sleep at night. They probably couldn't sleep without it.
I've read about Thais being noisy what with their street parties, loud speakers playing the national anthem and so on. Are barking dogs very common in Thai towns? I can't stand too much noise and I wonder whether Thailand would drive me nuts.

Re: My Isaan dogs
there is a temple opposite my place with some 20 temple dogs, I have never heard them bark, I don't know how the monks keep them quiet.
when staying in villages, the roosters annoy me more than the dogs, maybe I have been unlucky but you cannot convince me any more that roosters only start screaming before sunrise, to me it seemed more like all night long, chatting with their buddies a couple of houses down the road or something. once there was one right in front of my door in Pai and I went out to chase it at night. the Thais were laughing at me for two days afterwards.

Betti, ever heard of the word mafia dog? You'd hear dogs barking at a temple only if there is a new doggy comer(s). They'd be bitten(sometime to dead) and then comes peace until another new comer visits.

I haven't heard that word - I can easily imagine so many dogs don't want yet another around....

Re: My Isaan dogs
My friend, if peace and quite is what you're looking for....it's not Thailand (imho)
I have lay in bed and heard the dogs from one village far away, set off the next villages dogs right on down to our dogs...then back again
I talk on the phone daily to my wife and the passing trafic, many without mufflers, drown out our conversation.
My nephews auto repair shop is directly behind our house, it's prone to start up any hour day or night ( compresser) if work arrives.
The village loud speaker is directly accross the street from our house ..6am news
Quite ....it's not...but a "better" way of living life?....I'll adjust

Re: My Isaan dogs
Come to think of it there is a noticeable lack of dogs in my wife's home-village. There does not seem to be a large interest in eating dog there though: except for an occasional black dog for medicinal purposes.
Black Dogs are used to help weak children gain their strength. I know...I know...but there it is.The Heart determines what is Possible by the Mind
