    travelling to Loei

What are some user-friendly ways of getting to Loei?

Can you get close by train?

Also, how long is the bus trip from Loei to Nan? Anyone done it?

Not really, it is about mid-way between the two northwards running lines with Phitsanulok the nearest to the west and Udon Thani or Kon Kaen to the east.

Probably about 9 hours on the bus from Loei to Nan. I'm in Loei at the moment and I just asked about going to Phrae, which would be about 7 hours. Nan is a couple hours or so farther.

    Oh no!
I set a limit of 3 hours for bus trips. I suppose I could stop halfway for a few hours rest.

In that case you might go to Phitsanuloke from Loei, which might be about the right distance, perhaps slightly longer as you have to go over the mountain range to get out of Isaan. From Phitsanuloke you can take the train to Den Chai. I believe there is a DenChai - Nan bus, or else you can take a songthaew from Den Chai into Phrae and catch a bus for Nan.

Phitsanuloke is an interesting city, worth some time if you have it.

    Re: travelling to Loei

Hi there! Hope somebody can help me.

I'm thinking of going to Loei from Bangkok in early February and I'm planning to fly to one of the nearest airports and then take a bus.

Please advice which airport is closest and better to catch a bus to Loei from?

Best if there are daily buses departing frequently from the city that I'm flying to as I don't fancy spending a night and want to complete my journey in the shortest possible time.

Hope to hear from someone soon!

The closest airport is Loei, but there are currently no flights there. Nok Air used to fly the route. Currently the closest airport to fly to is Khon Kaen served by Thai Airways.

Air Asia flies to Udon Thani from Bangkok as well. I don't know if the roads are better or worse than from Khon Kaen, it looks closer. should be about 4 hours and there are regular departures from Udon bus station. I remember the airport is well outside town though.

    Hi David!

Thanks for the advice as this is the 1st time that I'm going up North. A pity that there are no flights to Loei airport.

Once I reach Khon Kaen how long will the the bus trip to Loei be? Is there a regular bus service? I just hope there is one with several daily departures.

Sorry if I got alot of Q's as this is my first trip up North and my Thai is quite bad. So just wanna make sure I don't get lost!

    Thanks again!

Northern folks speak the clearest Thai so going up North will be great for improving your language skills.
