Justice Minister slams Newin Chidchob faction

The People Power Party (PPP) has halted any attempts to amend the Constitution and will reprimand the Newin Chidchob faction for trying to break ranks with a fresh motion, Justice Minister Sompong Amornwiwat said Monday.

"As phu yai [elder] of the party, I am worried that certain party MPs, such as those from the Northeast, have claimed the party's support for a second push on a charter rewrite," he said.

Sompong said the party had made no such stand and conceded the infighting over the amendments had tainted the party's reputation.

He spoke to reporters after a meeting with Pracharaj Party leader Snoh Thienthong, who was a faction leader of the disbanded Thai Rak Thai Party before morphing into the PPP.
