PM approves probe against general at PAD rally

(BangkokPost.com) - Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej Friday approved the investigation into Gen Pathompong Kasornsuk's action after he appeared in full uniform on People's Alliance for Democracy stage on Tuesday.

Gen Pathompong is chief adviser of the Supreme Command.

He strongly criticised Mr Samak for supporting Phnom Penh's bid for Preah Vihear temple to receive World Heritage status from Unesco.

Mr Samak said such action brings the military to the negative light, thus should be investigated to create better understanding among public.

Boonsang lets Defence Ministry decide fate of Pathompong

(BangkokPost.com) - Supreme Commander Boonsang Niampradit lets Defence Ministry to determine the act of Gen Pathompong Kesornsuk, who appeared in full uniform on a stage of the anti-government group People's Alliance for Democracy.

Gen Boonsang said the maximum punishment the army can do is only warning him, as his seniority is equivalent to that of a field marshal.

However, Gen Boonsang said that the Defence Ministry has the right to set up an inquiry against him.

He said it is acceptable for a military officer to join an anti-government rally after the work period without wearing uniform.

Boonsrang says Samak can order disciplinary probe against Pathompong

Suprme Commander Gen Boonsrang Niampradit said Saturday that Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej could order a disciplinary probe against a Supreme Command officer for attacking the government at the rally site of the People's Alliance for Democracy.

Boonsrang said Samak could order the probe against Gen Prathompong Kesornsuk, chief advisor of the Supreme Command, in his capacity as the defence minister.

Boonsrang said he had already reprimanded Pathompong for speaking against the government on the PAD stage while wearing the military uniform.

Boonsrang said he could only reprimand Pathompong as a punishment and he had reported to Samak about the punishment.
