Almost gifts and cosmetics

My Thai sister went shopping and I asked her in English what she bought. She replied, "Almost gifts and cosmetics". This is obviously a direct translation from Thai (revealed by the awkward structure in English). What is the original Thai for this... แทบ ? เกือบ ?

Knowing the original translation will help me 'learn backwards' so that I can understand how this phrase is used in Thai.

How good is your sister in English ?

I assume that she used a wrong Word.

She probably wanted to say: "I only bought gifts and cosmetics".

This is a common Sentence Structure in Thai which I hear many times and uses the Word แต่

For example:

ซื้อแต่ ....... = I only bought ......

มีแต่ ....... = There were only .....

เห็นแต่ ....... = I only saw ......

I assumed that maybe she probably wanted to say: " ซื้อเครื่องสำอางค์และของขวัญซะเป็นส่วนมาก" " Mostly bought gifts and cosmetics "

so...the phrase แทบของขวัญ (almost gifts) does exist but I do not know what it means ...virtual gifts maybe...(below the above phrase there were pics of cakes) but I am not sure how your sister could go shopping for virtual gifts

I have seen แทบของขวัญ written another time...but I can not for the life of me remember the context or what it was about....but I think it was on a post on the website Hi 5.....in the journal section.

Thanks everyone for your help! Her English is fairly good...however, I could tell that this was her directly translating, and I think Mel's suggestion of เกือบทั้งหมดเป็นของขวัญและเครื่องสำอาง or แทบ(จะ)ทุกอย่างเป็นของขวัญและเครื่องสำอาง is probably the original.
