Re: Thaksin, Potjaman end 32-year marriage

He must have realised that this would be all over the papers and the other media in Thailand on the day that an event of great national importance was taking place involving the Royal Family. Why couldn't he postpone this "divorce" of convenience for a few days until after the Royal Funeral.. He is a ****** disgrace!!!
The suggestion on TV this morning is that this is a strategy to have his frozen ill gotten gains in Thailand transferred to his "ex" wife. He doesn't love Thailand, he loves money that's all!!

I've never understood why the poorest of the poor always liked this disgusting person. it is completely beyond me how they could continue to believe in him after his fraudulent schemes were uncovered.

    THAKSIN'S DIVORCE

    Assets unlikely to be freed

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's divorce from his wife, Khunying Potjaman, would not free the frozen 76 billion baht assets of the Shinawatra family in Thailand, lawyers said yesterday.

Sak Korsaengruang, a former member of the now dissolved Assets Scrutiny Committee, which ordered the freeze on the ex-couple's assets for abuse of power, said the divorce should not affect the lawsuits brought against them.

Mr Sak was convinced that the divorce was politically motivated, saying Khunying Potjaman could soon appeal to Britain over the withdrawal of her visa on the grounds that she no longer has anything to do with the political conflicts related to her ex-husband.

Democrat MP and party lawyer Thaworn Senniem said Thaksin would not recoup his frozen assets simply by divorcing his wife.

The opposition Democrat party's legal expert said the couple did not stand to gain from the split.

"The divorce cannot attribute the money to any one side - it is still jointly owned and they would both need to prove how the money was earned. I think it is purely a personal decision," he said. BANGKOK POST AND AFP

We don't know that for sure. It seem more likely that his marriage has suffered the strain from always being on the move since the coup. They haven't been together much. I am not sure about you, but I don't believe half the stuff I see or read in the Thai media. They keep speculating what Thakisn is thinking and then print it as if it is fact. Like the recent reports of where he is and why he is there. Most of it is rubbish. I wish they would stop printing news stories about him so that we can move on.

Certainly half or more of the stuff coming out about Thaksin is utter rubbish. But where is it coming from? I suspect it is coming from the Thaksin camp to keep him in the public eye and his enemies wrong footed. To this end I also suspect it is made profitable for the media to publish these stories-and not only in terms of circulation figures. Thaksin and his cause can not really live on without this constant publicity-his appeal is directly to mainly rural people who look to mainstream TV and newspapers for information-how often has Thaksin used an internet podcast to talk to the faithful?
As to his marriage, of course you could be right-but the timing of the announcement was awful-or brilliant-depending on your viewpoint, coming as it did on the eve of a Royal Funeral which, as an event, was also seen as an attempt to reconcile a country divided mainly by attitudes to-guess who?

    More

Thaksin looking for a home from Dubai

Thailand's ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is staying in Dubai as he seeks a new home after his British visa was revoked earlier this month, an aide said Monday, AFP news agency reported.

"He is in Dubai, I don't know how long he will be there," Jatuporn Prompan, a key leader for a Thaksin supporters group, told AFP in Bangkok.

"He will call to talk about the political situation" to supporters at the National Stadium on Dec 10, Jatuporn said, adding that he did not know if Thaksin would do so from the Gulf emirate.

Thaksin has links to the United Arab Emirates, having sold Premier League Club Manchester City to Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahyan's Abu Dhabi United Group (ADUG) in September.

Family and intelligence sources claimed the split, carried out on Friday, was for financial or legal reasons.
