I may have to go back at Ancient City again sometimes because I only walked and see it closer for only 1/4 of it from all.

Thanks for your time seeing my adventure.

    Re: Samut Prakarn-Ancient City เมืองโบราณ

Thanks for sharing. A couple of things I will add.....

    (1) A songtaew from Paknam Market has a fixed price for the route. It is presently 9 baht. It went up several times recently because of petrol prices - it might go down. Give him ten baht and keep your hand there for the change. The numbers on the front say either "30" or "36". This refers to the kilometer marker on the side of the road. Both will go past Muang boran.

    (2) They have now changed their name from Ancient City to Ancient Siam. When I went yesterday the road sign outside still said Ancient City and another said Muang Boran in English. This is the Thai name.

    (3) You can also rent a gulf cart to travel around the park which is from 200-500 baht per hour depending on number of seats.

    (4) You can no longer driver your car around the entire park (a big shame on that). You can only drive around the new section and the road from the Palace buildings to the floating market. I am not sure why they did that as the roads are wide and were never busy. When I took people for a quick highlight tour it always took us two to three hours to drive around. When I took David yesterday we were forced to rent a golf cart. I used to go often. I have no plans to go again now.

    (5) Thai price has now gone up to 150 baht. If you have a work permit or speak fluent enough Thai they will give you Thai price. If you are a Samut Prakan resident then there is a discount.

    (6) The seagulls in Bang Pu are only there October to March. The best time to go is late afternoon for the sunset over the Gulf of Thailand. There is a restaurant on the pier.

    - my sister went a couple of weeks ago. she says bicycle rental is only 50 baht and that she really enjoyed exploring the area that way (she stayed from opening time to closing time - 8 to 5!)

    - don't be surprised if a HUGE monitor lizard crawls out of the pond and walks across the road in front of you!

Reminds me of the good old day's when I visited there in 2002.
Back then there was no golf cart but If you can ride a bicycle that's the best way, as the road around the Ancient City is completely flat and is a very easy ride even if your not fit, but there will be a few steps up and down some of the exhibits, such as what I would describe as an artificial mountain, nice view from the top. It's also possible to walk if you have got the time, the exercise will do you good.

By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.
