Re: New Members Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hi, my name's Stephen, and my "play name" is Santi. I'm from London, and I'm 34.
I first arrived in Thailand in 2002, as an English teacher. I've since stopped teaching, but I haven't stopped going-going-coming-coming to your wonderful country...
One of my favourite things in life is learning the Thai language. When I'm out of the country I don't stop studying, and when I'm in the country I don't stop talking!
As I joined this forum to help improve my Thai, I thought it only fair to offer to help Thai members improve their English. So if anyone has any questions about grammar, idioms, etc., then please feel to PM me - I will reply. Yin dii rap chai krap :@)

Hello Everyone!
I am from Portland, Oregon, USA (PDX) and my name is Brandon (B)

So... The time has finally come, even though it is not how I had pictured it.
But I am coming to Thailand soon.
Long story short, my father has disowned me because of my personal preferences. My mother chose her abusive, insane, creepy BF over me. My family is in ruins. It is time for me to leave the states for a while. I am single. Due to the horrible economy over here in the states, I am out of work. I can not even afford health care because of skyrocketting costs, and republicans refusing to allow a universal health care system. Cost of living is growing rapidly, quality of life is diminshing just as quickly, and I am not waiting any longer.
Ever since I was a little child, around 6 or 7 I have had a fascination with Thailand, it's beautiful people, its wonderful culture, and the history associated with your awesome land.
I can remember dreaming about visiting one day, but I usually imagined myself much better off mentally. As it is, I do feel like there has never been a better time for me to come over and check it out. Maybe stay awhile.
I am a US citizen, and never left the country for more than a few months, but I have no doubt I can find a nice little place to take some ME time. Sit back, think on life, and maybe discover myself even. I need a break from all this chaos and absurdity.
I have been an Import Auto Technician for the last 10 years. I have built, raced, and sold some of the meanest, cleanest, turbo and N/A Honda/Acura's, Nissan/Infinit''s, Toyota/Lexus's, and Mazda Rotarys in the Northwestern United States.
I have also been an instrumental part of several successful start-ups using my uncanny ability to demonstrate incredible guerilla marketing tactics, and a keeen n' savvy business sense.
I grew up in a working-class, lower income, single parent family. I was raised with a great work ethic, and taught to be honest, dependable, loyal, caring, understanding, and tolerent of others. I learned early on what it was to be a real man. To provide for the family even though I was only a child still. I started my first business at age 12 providing lawncare to local residents and business's. At around age 15 I bought my first car. I could not afford to pay someone to work on it so I research automotive technology in school, spent all my free time working on it, and soon was showing all my friend's how to work on cars. The summer after that I went to the auction. I bought a few cars that summer. Fixed them up and sold them. At the same time I started racing my car at the local track and around the streets. Sometimes I raced for money, sometimes I raced for fun. I always raced for bragging rights.
I also stopped playing basketball, baseball, soccer, and football and started focusing on riding motorbikes, skateboarding, drag racing, snowboarding, and the such. That is where my father really started to dislike me. I thought I could make it up by helping him with his business which I did everymorning, from 3am-8am, even on school days. We worked 7days a week. 365 days a year. NEVER A DAY OFF. But I was very wrong. My father does not seem to remember that at all.
I graduated high school at 16 1/2 and went right to college. Albeit, community college. But, I wanted to learn more about cars, but fell in love with the Law. I soon took on a full Ad. Law classload. At the same time I had a shop built on my family's property. I had a lot of cars there, mostly friend's of mine, or friend's of friend's. I put my way through college for a year or so by building balanced, purpose built track cars, and selling cars to make a profit. Usually, a large one around 100% or more. Sometimes a lot more.
I was on my way to becoming a lawyer, or something in the criminal justice system when I got in trouble for street racing. Over here they have started to take it so very serious. I was soon told I could never have anything to do with our criminal justice system. So I switched to Auto Tech classes and have been an Import Technician for the majority of the time since then.
However, I have helped a few of my friends start their business's as well. And have accomplished quite a bit doing that.
Cut to the chase, two crazy lovers, one horrible economy, and two less-than-helpful parents later... I have very little to show for anything. My bank accounts were cleaned out by my last partner who has a drug problem, and betrayed me, and all the equity in my father and I's property is gone since he has decided to cut me off just because I was not the type of person he wanted me to be, just like he was. College Star quarterback, Contractor, and Movie production manager.
I have sent off for my U.S. Passport, and am booking my tickets for a month or two from now.
I do not know anyone except one person who might or might not be able to let me stay with them.
I am looking for someone who will be open to letting me stay with them.
I can pay, trade work, take over chores or household duties, provide excellent childcare, cook, or teach English in compensation for giving me a place to stay for a while. This might be weeks, months, or who knows. I will be able to provide EXCELLENT references, vouches, background information, or whatever you would like upon request.

I just want to take a break from all this stress, bs, and I have no strings holding me down so I figure, "Why Not"?

Again, I have many references, and vouches for who I am as a person, and a businessman. None of them would hesitate to call, fax, email, or even fly in person to meet with you. One of my best friend's Jerry Hopkins D.D.S. has been to Thailand several times and tells me what I already know... It is one of the best places on earth. The people are awesome. The land is awesome. The culture is awesome.
If you know someone, or if you yourself might be interested in being my new friend, or maybe helping me via email or text messaging that would be awesome.
I can build motors, boats, houses (not that good at houses LOL), can cook, am great with kids, and am always a gentleman.
I always clean up after myself and others, I can fish fairly well, I can grow and harvest vegetables fairly well too. I am very interested in almost EVERYTHING. And I mean EVERYTHING.
It is very nice to be able to join this forum. I very much look forward to hearing from you guys on what you think might be my best bets on where to stay, what to do, and who to talk to.
I have to say, I know I might sound like a real nice guy who would get taken advantage of real easy but please do not mistake that as the case. I am very cautious, I am very careful about who I do and do not trust. I am pretty smart when it comes to judging people. Just thought I would throw that in there.
LOL
More about me..
I love photography, am good with standard 35mm and hi def digi cams.
I love to cook. Especially fish, veggies, rice, noodles.
I lived with Vietnamese for 2 years.
I am fairly active. Love to play sports. Skate. Et cetera.
I am good with computers and type fairly fast 80wpm?? I think haha.
Love to laugh.
Love kids.
Love to dress myself and others.
Do not mind getting dirty or working hard.
Never cheated on either my lovers.
Never will cheat.

Always take care of my family. Except for when they say they do not want anything to do with me because of who I am as a person.
Love to fix things.
I am very good with people.
I am great at selling cars.
I am a very good, thorough Technician.
Like to party and have fun. Just as much as I like to work hard.
Do not do drug. Or ever get drunk.
I am peaceful. Not a fighter.
I love to dance and sing even though I am horrible
But give me a text, or email, or message me please feel free.
[Telephone number removed by Moderator]

Hey. My name is Jeff Peterson. I currently live in NY, but I will be moving out to Thailand sometime in the fall. While my company is relocating me to Bangkok, my family is already there. My wife and daughter live in Ummao, a farming village outside Kalasin and will be joining me in Bangkok on the move. I have been back and forth to the LOS several times a year beginning in 1998 and it always leaves me wanting for more. Look forward to conversing with you guys and gals as I try to assimilate into Paradise.

Re: New Members Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hi. My name is zed. I am a South African, coming at the end of the month to BKK. I am bringing my 14 year old twin daughters with. They are home schoolers, and I am their teacher as well.
One of them has been accepted into a soccer coaching academy in BKK.
Hence the reason for trip.
Would really appreciate it if someone can advise me of a decent,
furnished ,2 bedroomed apartment to rent from OCT - DEC.
My budget is 12000 to 15000 baht for accomodation.
Is this realistic, considering I would like a nice place with pool and gym and internet in complex?
