My name is Dave from the USA. I live in Missouri not far from St. Louis. I have been to Thailand 5 times over the last 3 years and plan to retire there soon. Why? Because my wife "Aew" is Thai and lives in Khon Kaen. She came to the USA with me when we were married 2 years ago. I think people do not realize how difficult it is to leave their homeland and move to another country. After the excitement wears off and "homesickness" sets in I suppose the best alternative is to return home to family. So I have decided when the time is proper I will retire to Thailand. I plan for this to be soon.
I just returned home from Thailand April 7 amidst the "redshirt" chaos. It is unfortunate to see that Thailand is not exempt from the mindless greed and power struggles that infect the entire world. I hope to learn to speak Thai and learn more about the culture. But then I think maybe it would be best to just retire to Num Noa without radio or television and let the world kill itself while I tend to my papaya trees!! Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this forum......khorp khun khrap. :-)

Sawadee...My name is Joe, I and planning to live in Chaing mai for a few years with my wife and 2 sons. I have been before with my wife and found during the end of the trip I craved some real conversation. Which brings me to the reason why I thought of immersing myself into the Thai langauge and culture before I get there.
Well abit myself, I have 2 boys aged 3 and 1 years, named Jamin and Daniel. They are my greastest joy at the moment(apart from when they cry and scream ). I also enjoy bicycle riding, I try to ride every day and I hope I'll get to do that in chaing mai.

    Cya for now

Re: New Members Please Introduce Yourself Here

    Hello everybody,

I am a young, fun, slightly mad 37 year old lady who is retraining as a teacher. I am looking to move to Thailand at the end of August around the Hat Yai area and wondered how best to go about contacting and/or meeting people over there. Although I do enjoy my own company, it would be nice to be in contact with ex pats living in the area to help advise on rental accomodation etc.
Many thanks in advance for any advice!

Re: New Members Please Introduce Yourself Here

    Hi,

I married a Thai woman here in the US in July of 2008. I joined this forum to learn more about Thailand including the language and religion. I'll probbaly spend most of my time in the relationship forums trying to better understand my Thai wife ... lol! I've never been to Thailand but have wanted to since I was a child and hope to before I move on. I'm looking forward to learning more about Thai buddhism and Thai language.

    Best,
    Rich
