Prepaid wireless broadband available?
Hi there,
I will be in Thailand for 1 month, and wondered if anyone knew if wireless Broadband is available there that can be purchased on a prepaid basis?
Here in Australia we can purchase a USB modem for about $150 and that includes a certain amount of data, and then top up of 1gb is about $30.
If anyone can give me an idea if this is available I would really appreciate it.
Take care all!

Re: Prepaid wireless broadband available?
Hi Vee,
Thanks for the info.
I am not terribly I.T. savvy, so I need to work out how to hook my Nokia N96 to the laptop. I am sure it is not hard, but I have no idea.
I do appreciate your input.

Sawatdee Khrub !
You can use the data cable supply to you from N96 to connect to laptop n I think you need the Nokia PC suit to connect .
Another way is to get the mobile USB stick (Vadafon or other brand)to connect it much easy.
Chok Dee !

Re: Prepaid wireless broadband available?
Don't be too optimistic about performance: I was looking at coverage maps last week and I believe most of Thailand has GPRS/EDGE data service. There is very little HSPA or UMTS (3G) service yet.
But please do post back on which carriers you try and how they work out.

If you are planning on staying in one place, just shop around for a guest house with free wifi included.

Re: Prepaid wireless broadband available?
Hi all,
Thanks very much for your input from all of you. I am not very computer-savvy, so all the info is much appreciated.
The big problem for me is I will be in Bangkok for 4 nights, Koh Samui for 3 weeks and then back to bangkok via Singapore for another 3 nights. Koh Samui where I stay does not have WiFi, and really prefer viewing the web in the comfort of my room rather than a cafe or the like.
I guess from the info here and trying to digest it with my limited understanding, is i need to purchase an Edge/GPRS conection thing, and get a data sim card to put in it. Question I have, does anyone know of something that plugs into my laptop, and has the ability to "suck" a WiFi signal if it is weak? The Centara Grand Beach Resort is next door, and I can subscribe to that to get service.
Once again, thanks, and I appreciate any info you have. Of course i will post here what I eventually do in 3 weeks time here and hopefullt this will help others later on.
P.S. Please try and keep you tips easy to understand and try not to get too technical. I am just a simple aussie that loves sailing and riding my Yamaharley!

Re: Prepaid wireless broadband available?
Thank Vee,
I agree as that is sounding the best way. The next question is who has the best service, and I will get a prepaid data sim. Or are they all the same?
I am tossing between DTAC or AIS.
