Foreigners - Which Thai dish do you dislike most?
We all know Thai Cuisine is widely popular globally and I think most of the people here enjoy Thai food as much as I do.
Would be interesting to know which type of food that farangs/foreigners dislike most.
For me, as a Singaporean Chinese, i have no problem with general south-east asian flavors like red hot chilli padi, durians etc. I have tried things like sour fish, deep-fried insects, extra extra extra spicy som tum (that make you tear instantly) and all kinds of plaa-laa dishes - no problem.
My only problems are dishes with bamboo shoots (nor mai) and smelly beans (sa-tor?) i have no idea what the proper name is but it looks like a 1-baht coin sized flat green bean that smells.
So, which is the one you dislike most? (Thais are welcome to contribute too)Last edited by ClashFanSG; 16-05-09 at 12:29 AM.

I like Lab mai sook but I don't like Lab mai sook sai leuat (Raw beef with blood).

Oh, yes, yes.... ไม่ใส่เลือด was a quick necessary phrase for me!

Anything insects of course, but oddly enough I am not particularly fond of coconuts. I don't like coconut based sweets, and while I don't mind some coconut in the curry dishes, if the coconut taste is too overpowering I do not like it.

I absolutely despise yen-ta-fo. I know a lot of people like it but the unnatural color and sweetness I just can't deal with.

Me too. The first time I ate congealed pigs blood to avoid offending my Isaan hosts I worried for days that I would contract some horrible disease like trichanaiasis. I decided that in future they would just have to be offended!

But Plaa-laa has to be the ultimate in truly horrible Isaan/Lao dishes that I will never eat again, after trying it only once. A truly life-threatening dish for Farangs, especially if you are on a Mekong river boat some days away from medical help. It is a putrid, fermented fish mixture that is left bubbling away in the sun in a four gallon can for days and has the foulest smell imagineable.

I don't care for any of the "road kill" seafoods. These are the dried tidbit, squid included, that you can smell 20 meters away.
I never liked yen ta fo either, until my wife order some with bah mee instead of the classic rice noodles. Spiced up with a little ground chili, it's pretty darn good.
