Re: Foreigners - Which Thai dish do you dislike most?

I am not so keen on anything with the inside of animals , as one of my Thai friends refers to offal. I also can live without eating chicken feet or lumps of blood in my soup. I once tried a salad with ant eggs and decided it wasn't my cup of tea. One time I went with some Thai friends to eat at an outdoor restaurant in Pattaya. One of the dishes they ordered was the skin of beef. It was already dark and we had only candle light. I could not see the dish properly but nevertheless tried it. This is now also on my list of dishes not to order again.

Hi, i will have a go at most of what is put in front of me, out of respect for whoever has been to the trouble to cook for me, but extremely hot chillie based dishes is a NO NO for me, and just reading some of the dishes other people have put up here, i think i will try to avoid, especially PLAA- LAA, as posted by Nam Phyyng, one to avoid at ALL costs me thinks !!.

Re: Foreigners - Which Thai dish do you dislike most?

During our 3 years in Chiangmai I didn't encounter any of the common dishes I actuallly disliked. I don't consider insects to be dishes but I tried roasted bamboo worms once and they didn't taste bad. I don't want to eat any again nor any other insects I've seen in markets. The idea of eating live jumping critters (forgot the name of that dish) makes me cringe. These would be in my "dislike" category.

I adore Thai (or Chinese) dishes with bamboo shoots; simply gorged myself on them during the Kim Jay festival - be them spicy or braised

Re: Foreigners - Which Thai dish do you dislike most?

Saw this one oneday when walking past a stall with a sign saying เตี๋ยวหมูกรอบ (Teow Moo Grob) mmm delicious I thinks. I love crispy pork (moo grob). A bit confused by the Teow, which half of the word Guay Teow (noodle) so perhaps it is noodle with crispy pork, yummy.

So I sat down and ordered it. What arrived is best described as road kill on a plate. Boiled liver, boiled pig's skin, boiled intestines, other unspeakable stuff all in pig's blood.

10Mar10  While I just love dried squid, and most other things fish....I just hate alligator meat, snake meat, and mangoes.  I love duck soup, prawns, BBQ chicken, kabobs, RICE RICE RICE, potato, all vegetables and expecially bamboo shoots.  Shark meat is a delicacy,  tuna, swoardfish, and whalemeat and seal.  Did you know that in Canada each year they have a seal hunt that allows the seal hunters ( who are also fishermen) to subsidize their income by ' culling ' the seal herds.  The total goes up to 100,000.  Seal meat is very delicious and is still eaten raw by the Northern People of Canada.  The pelts / hides are used for clothing and giftstuffs for tourists. The seal hunt is always done because the seals multiply during the winter season and become a great problem to the fisheries.  Seals will ' take a bite ' out of any fish that they see even when they are NOT hungry.  This is one of the reasons for the downsizing in the CODFISH stocks.  So Canada helps nature to help itself.  Never mind what ' bridget bardot ' and her crowd has to say about it.  Think about the fisherman and his family in those far Northern regions who MUST rely on the seal hunt to help his family to survive. And that's a fact.  HeadStone

I can't eat chili. So, I hate all Thai foods that source from its south. Because all of these food tend to be exceedingly chili hot compared with Thai food from other regions of Thailand. Specially favored dishes of the south are a whole variety of gang (spiced soup or curry) for examples, gang liang, gang tai pla, and budu sauce.

Thai foods are ok. I suppose we may have been spoiled having just come back from holiday in Thailand, however the food at Lanna is very bland. The starters are amazing, probably the best chicken satay I've ever had, so much meat ! Would I recommend this restaurant, well I wouldn't say don't go, I'd probably say, it's ok, go and see for yourself!
