    Prices of restaurants/ foods

I'm budgeting for a trip to Thailand in November. One thing I always try to do is figure out how much food will cost, and double that for my budget.

Can someone tell me how much the following items cost in Thai Baht?

    • A can of Coca-Cola
    • A sandwich or meal at a fast food place (comparable to McDonald's, Burger King, etc)
    • A meal at an average restaurant (comparable to Applebee's, Chili's, etc)
    • A meal at a steakhouse (comparable to Texas Roadhouse, Logan's, etc)

(...and yes, I understand that the foods are completely different, but I can use prices for "comparable meals" to compare to the US dollar when making my budget. I will not be flying halfway around the world to eat at McDonald's!)

If you have any specific examples of meal costs at good restaurants in Bangkok, I'd be happy to have that info as well. Recommendations of specific restaurants are always great to have.

    Thanks!

someone else may be able to give you the prices I just want to point out that there is a flaw in your logic: McDonald's and the like are cheap trash food in the US and an expensive fancy meal in Thailand.
I don't know what sorts of places you like to go to but a Thai meal can be anything from 1 dollar (from a street vendor or simple restaurant with plastuc chairs) to say 8 dollars and then it means a fancy place. or, if you are staying in Phuket or Samui or some of the worst infected places in Bangkok, double that. beer is expensive.

The format got jammed up when I posted but the numbers are in categories. The first number is per meal for 5 people. The 2nd number is frequency of dining or number of meals for the whole vacation and the 3rd is the total for our 25 day trip. I didn't add much for breakfast because the hotels include that free.

    A can of Coca-Cola ---about 15 baht.

A sandwich or meal at a fast food place (comparable to McDonald's, Burger King, etc) ---"Meal" at fast food(Mc's/BK) place roughly 100-140 baht.

A meal at an average restaurant (comparable to Applebee's, Chili's, etc) ---just main meal(not inc starters/desert) from 200-300 baht and upwards.

A meal at a steakhouse (comparable to Texas Roadhouse, Logan's, etc) ---again just main meal(not inc starters/desert) from 200-300 baht and upwards.

But if you really wanted to save some money,& can eat Thai food, just go and eat at the 1000's of food halls and road side eateries all over Thailand. Many meals at the 30-40 baht range........."aroi mak mak!"

Thanks for the responses, everyone! I was thinking of budgeting about $15 per meal, so based on your input, I'm already ahead of the game. 300 THB is a little less than $9 USD, so my $15 estimate keeps me pretty safe. I'm sure I'll be eating in a LOT of small, local places, but I know I'll want to treat myself to a nice meal here and there.

    Thanks again, everyone!

I believe a 16 ounce bottle of Coke Zero is about 12 baht at the Siam Paragon market. I don't like to drink from cans but I do believe they run about 9 baht at the 7-11.

The steakhouse estimate is very low. Good steak has to be imported from Australia, New Zealand or US. At 13 Coins, you can find an average USDA New York steak for just over 300 baht. But that's barely comparable to a steak you might find at Sizzler, not even Applebee's quality. I would say a decent steak will cost you 1000 baht on up. Ditto on the rest of the prices and advice.

$15 a meal you will eat like a king if you eat at the non-tourist traps. Seafood though can get pricey at a decent seafood restaurant, especially on crab, lobster, and prawns. Tawandaeng is a restaurant I would recommend. So many great places along Kaset Nawamin and Ram Inthra as well. I don't like to eat beef while in BKK, it will cost you a lot and leave you disappointed.

Eat food at major shopping centers like, MBK, Platinum, Pantip and all of them have air conditioning food center floor, many variaty of food at Thais' price range Baht 30-50 ($.75-$1.50) water bottle baht10.00 ($0.30). Popular Thai foods are fried rice, noodle soup, stir fried noodle, rice curry and many more

Thai food is available almost every corner you never go hungry the price is cheap unless you go to fancy restaurant.

Most of Thai food you will enjoy just tell them not to make too hot for you. I just got back from there I enjoy spending money buying food, as native I can go direct to the morning market buy to go I can feed three-four persons for Baht 60-70 ($ 1.50-$2.00)

Don't forget to try fruits they are cheap and delicious tree ripe, specially mango, lynchee, mongoosteen

You did not mention where in thailand ur goin to visit and stay. And I think the guys r giving u the food prices in bangkok. So it is best u let them know ur actual destination/s unless the food prices r the same everywhere.
