Re: Ask for work permit in thailand
Work permits are tied to a particular company. So, you cannot just turn up with one and start working. They will have to apply for you as there are a lot of documents that they have to provide during the application process. If they are a BOI firm then there is a one stop place which in theory only takes one day to finish. In the worst case scenario it can take 2-3 months to complete. I am not sure of your nationality but they would normally have to pay you a minimum monthly salary of 50,000 baht. They would need at least 4 or 5 Thai employees on the payroll too. For some companies this is too much bother and they won't hire foreigners legally.

and it is documents like the site plan of the office, list of all employees including their salaries, the manager's qualifications, receipts of tax paid, etc. every year when my work permit is renewed, I spend about 20 minutes just signing each and every page of photocopied or original document that has to be attached. it is quite a pile.
if the company has no idea how to do it, they should hire someone Thai to take care of it. there are agencies doing that sort of thing, they have an up-to-date list of what is needed. the list may also be different for every province or labour office. there is no way you can figure it out all by yourself. it also costs about 10 thousand baht, which the company should be paying. plus the visa itself to start with is also 2000 baht.
for me, it took almost 3 months by the way. the paperwork went through just before my 3-month visa expired.

Betti-
How can a company outside Thailand show documentation like tax receipts, proof of Thai employess, etc? I am sending a person from the US (a US based company) to Thailand, and in order to get the work permit I need to provide documents that look like they need to be originated from a Thai company, or one based in Thailand.

Re: Ask for work permit in thailand
sorry, I am not an expert at all. you should ask at thaivisa.com/forum , it has experts and a huge visa section.
as far as I know, you can only get a work permit in Thailand, not outside.
