    When words mean the opposite...

I was in the Chinese takeaway earlier this evening when a lady came in and looked in the hot food cabinet and asked "Is that fish for anyone?" The girl serving said "Yes". The customer then thought for a few minutes then said "Can I have a pie and chips and a large sausage and chips?" The girl serving wrapped the order for her and then said "And you want the fish?" The customer said "I asked if it was for anyone and you said yes?"

In this part of the world people often misuse the word 'anyone' when they actually mean 'someone'... The serving girl who is from Hong Kong and only recently learnt to speak English was using the word in its correct meaning.

    In a hardware store

Customer: "Can I have some nails?"
Shop assistant: "Certainly sir, how long do you want them?"
Customer: "I want to keep them!!"

    Hahaha...very funny!

Reminds me of working in BKK on a team with a Cockney Fellow and a Canadian. The poor canadian had to translate between the Cokney fellow and I ...neither one of us could understand the other.

    BillHooks, indeed!
