Thaksin confident he can return to Thailand in 6 months: Kwanchai
Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is confident that he can return to Thailand in six months, Kwanchai Praiphana, chairman of the Udon Thani Loving Club, said Saturday.
Kwanchai said he met Thaksin in Dubai and he expressed the confidence that the political situation would change and the Democrat-led government would collapse so he would be able to return in six months.
Kwanchai said Thaksin also promised that he would return to serve the people by returning to politics.

I always thought he would return one day - I'm not sure what the circumstances would need to be. To pick out one person or one political party and blame them for all the corruption that takes place or has taken place in the past - just doesn't seem logical to me.

Like many exiled politicians, he suffers from a very common delusionthat there will be little or no opposition to his return to power as he perceives the country has suffered in his absence and he alone can can facilitate its recovery, consequently his return will be welcomed by open arms by all, the opposition either having fled or quietly melted into the woodwork
This syndrome usually comes about by being surrounded by advisors who tell only tell such exiled politicians what they think they want to hear-and none of what they do not.
I think in his wilder moments Thaksin thinks there is going to be some sort of popular revolution to overthrow the government a' la' Banana Republic -and he sees himself stepping off the plane bringing him home onto a runway crowded with wildly jubilant people waving banners of welcome and a full military guard of honour.
The reality is likely to be very different, of course."There is no such thing as totally useless information"

According to the interview of Samak Sundaravej by the Dok Bia magazine:
Thaksin Shinawatra's political demise could mainly be blamed on his close aides, adding that he (Samak) realised this when he was made PM in 2008.
"After I became prime minister, I knew right away that the politicians who worked with Thaksin were all selfish and worried about themselves instead of the country," Samak said.
"Most of the aides were not good and gave bad advice to Thaksin. They were more concerned about their own benefits."
Thaksin wasn't given the right information by his aides either. Since he was given the wrong information, Thaksin wrongly evaluated the circumstances, he explained.

I wonder who gave him the advice to go into exile - or if it was his own decision - it seems to me he would have been better off to have stayed and faced the music. I would have thought with his money and lawyers the result would have turned out much better for him than running for the rest of his life.
