In Sweden we don't even have warders, we have "caretakers", but at least our cops are armed

Re: Pregnant Briton freed from Laotian jail

She is very lucky to be transfered back to the uk to complete her sentence because uk law is so soft it's unbelieve,so no she will not do a whole life sentence. She will get loked after and will probably have a comfortable time there especially as she is expecting a child and released early.Even some of the top security prisons over here treat murderes, rapists and paedophiles like guests in a 5 star hotel,it's no wonder when they get released back into the community the repeat their crimes,so where was the punishment?.It really does'nt matter who gets caught selling drugs because the people they catch them put the drugs back out the street and you can't tell me all drugs seized from any part of the world are completely destroyed.Should the uk take a tougher stance and actually punish criminals properly they may well see a slight reduction in criminal activity.
I have looked into punishments for criminals around the world and some are to the point. In one african country a man caught interfering with a child had his left hand chopped off before and because he repeated his crime, had his right hand chopped off. They clearly chopped the wrong part of his body off for that crime.

In an Malaysian prison a man convicted of rape was strapped to a contraption that only showed his bottom and was given 20 lashes with what looked like a rod until his bottom was bleeding,America has the eletric chair and so on.

As for people selling drugs, this unfortunately will always be there.

As the criminal in question is Nigerian by birth, the British Government should have taken away her British citizenship and left it to the Nigerians and Lao to sort out her punishment. British taxpayers have had to pay for the transfer of a Nigerian drug trafficker to the UK and will be footing the bill for her incarceration and the upkeep of her child who no doubt will be given British citizenship and a place for life in the welfare system.

So what is new, David-sorry don't wish to seem rude- but this is a "crime pays" situation we come across everyday here from the government that was going to be "tough on crime and the causes of crime". Thankfully there is an election next year-but the main opposition is not up to much either.
    Wish I could leave.

And as if by magic-try this for an example

Fortunately - for me, at least - I did leave a long time ago. I haven't paid any UK taxes or national insurance and now that I see how the money paid by those who stayed behind has been squandered, I'm sure I did the right thing. I feel sorry for those who are stuck in the UK but want to leave. Mind you, I'm not sure where I could recommend for them to go.

Why are you 'stuck'? I think you could leave if you really wanted to.

Age, ill health, and a resultant lack of money preclude.
