    Forthcoming Visit

As i have said previously we are visiting Kuala Lumpur at the beginning of October for 3 days and we would like to visit Malacca. Is it better to go with a guided tour or do our own thing, taxi, bus ,train etc. All information would be appreciated.

    Thank You

    Re: Forthcoming Visit

Malacca is not a very big place so doing ur own things would be better. Most tourists would visit Jonker Street to source for antiques and the Peranakan history and culture, the Portugese settlement , the Dutch Fort and a little bit of shoppin. As for transportation, like any other places in asia, do some bargaining. You can get cheap food and hotel but it depend on what you want. Dont worry , the people are friendly and you can always ask for help. Welcome to Malaysia and Enjoy your holidays.

    Hi Keith,
Welcome to historical Malacca, about 148km fro Kuala Lumpur requiring a 2 hours journey.
Buy bus ticket at Kuala Lumpur Puduraya Bus Terminal about RM12.00 one-way.(counter not touts)
On arrival at new RM28.4m Malacca Sentral just 0.4km from Tesco Hypermart, taxis easily avail or otherwise if you can do the walk will be about 4km of Big-Walk.From Tesco keep to left, cross the bridge & you're in town turn right.
If by cab, your Start Point...say Bandar Hilir Parkson Supermarket.
    1) A Formosa ..right across..souvenirs stalls along the way.
    2) Stadthuys & Queen Victoria Fountain,,500m from 1)
    3) Baba & Nyonya Heritage..Jonker Street.(from 2) cross bridge turn left and there you are.
    4) Cheng Hoon Teng Chinese temple, oldest outside China.(heritage)..from 3) walk side road turn left 300m and right 300m.
    5) Straight can walk back bus terminal about 2.8km or turn right to town with all the narrow roads fit for the olden days buffalo transport sending goods from Malacca River port.
***Portugese Settlement is too far out 8km away.
    6) The Hang Li Po's well beneath the highest hill and biggest chinese cemetry outside China.Beside it was a Japanese Occupation Monument for the dead.Good view atop of Malacca.
(from 2 walk past 100m St Francis Xavier's Church..straight goes back to bus terminal, here keep left round the corner of Public Bank, walk to very end ..u found it!This road was called Mill Road.then changed to Egerton Road, today is Jalan Temenggong.
So have a great day in Malacca.

    Regards.
