Buffalo Racing in Chonburi 2009

This year it is held on Saturday 3rd October 2009. Expect big crowds as it is a weekend this year. When we first started going there weren't many foreigners but there are many now who come up from Pattaya. We will be going there straight from the Rub Bua Festival in Bang Phli. They also have parades and beauty contests. I will try and get a schedule. I will also post a map soon.

I only saw the real buffaloes when I went to Buffaloes Village in Supanburi province this couple years. Otherwise, I saw their photos on kid textbooks when I was a child.

It was rarely to see them on farms and the remote villeages as almost of farmers are using tractor instead of them.

We will be heading down to Chonburi tomorrow for the Buffalo Racing. We are going to watch the Rub Bua Festival first in Samut Prakan and then drive straight down. From Bang Phli it takes only one hour to get there.



The racing takes place in the city hall area. In the above satellite image, you can see Sukhumwit road coming down the center. Normally if you drive to Pattaya you take the bypass and don't drive through Chonburi City.



I have marked the area where they have the racing. There are also temple fair like foodstalls and games.

Not easy to get all the buffaloes in the start line. They can't stay still very long, not so much patience I think!
