Re: Crime and punishment - bring in the spirits!
Yes it was fengshui - but as many Thai people in the Central region are half Chinese then they have adopted many of the superstitions and beliefs of the Chinese. In some ways it has become their own.

Re: Crime and punishment - bring in the spirits!
I have been known to give people the curse of the Kalahari I don't like and guess what, something bad always happens to them. If what they do to me is very bad, then the curse strikes them even harder. I remember when I was about 24 years old, I had this 28 year old man threatened to punch me in the head, well I did not say any thing, but I gave him the curse and a few days latter he had a stoke, he became permanently paralyzed down one side and had to walk with a walking stick. Guess what he never threatened me again.

Re: Crime and punishment - bring in the spirits!
I worked in an office once in Hong Kong where they called in a feng shui master to consult on changes to the office to improve the luck (in other words, "profitability").
Strangely, there was one area of the office which was like a kind of "dead end" (literally, maybe) where 3 ppl who had sat at the desk there had been sacked over the course of 18 months, for totally different reasons. Actually, I think one of them just had some bad luck in his private life and resigned.
This was an American multinational company, but after the feng shui master came in we had to install a fountain in the reception area, some people had to have little red mats placed under their desks and were advised to have red cushions as back rests on their chairs. There was also a picture we were told needed to be put on the wall in one of the conference rooms. I forget now what the peculiarity was but it was something to do with a certain texture the picture needed. I remember it was ugly. There was even one smaller conference room that we were told not to use anymore.
We also had to place a jade lion on one of the windowsills to deflect bad feng shui from a neighbouring building.
That was six years ago. No idea how the company is doing now.By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.

Thais are incredibly superstitions....some originates from heresay..
but I agree with Mr Cleary...some people just make up this stuff for their own gain.
