    Erawan Falls

I visited Kanchanaburi during the River Khwae Bridge week, held from November 27th to December 8th. The area around the River Khwae Bridge turns into a huge market place during this time and the celebrations and carnival atmosphere is just great, with a re-enactment of the bombing of the bridge each night. But what really impressed me the most about this trip was the visit to the Erawan Water Falls. These falls are located 64km northwest of Kanchanaburi on highway 3199, everything is well sign posted and easily found.

There are 7 water falls to explore, you roughly cover 1.5kms on the walk with an elevation of about 980m, it takes around 2 to 3 hours, you can cool off at most of the falls with a dip in the water, and some of the pools created by the falls are occupied by hundreds cat fish which nibble at you feet, sometimes quite aggressively.
At the bottom of the falls there is a very large open area with big bamboo constructed tables just perfect for picnics.

The first 4 waterfalls are not much of a problem to reach, and most foot wear will do but if you want to go to the top, the last 3 falls are a bit more demanding to get to and good shoes are a must. I saw a lot of people trying to repair blown out thongs (flip flops) and sandals on the way back down.
