Road Trip - Bangkok- Sukothai- Chiang Mai- Phitsanulok - Bangkok

My road trip from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.

First to Singburi cos I love the Bungrajung story and then 1 night stay at Sukhothai at a 500THB guesthouse. Seens like they like to overcharge foreigners by at least 5 times (compared to local) in Sukhothai so I didn't stay long. They simply shrug their shoulders even if you explained that you have a work permit or even a local driving license.

The journey from Lampang to Chaing Mai was a challenge with the many curves but you can still see many cyclists along the road. By the time we reached Chiang Mai it was already evening so we settled down in a 680THB a night motel nearby the night bazzaar and proceeded to Riverside for nice dinner.

At Doi Suthep, foreigners need to pay 30THB to enter the temple but if you can go in free if you have a work permit or local driving license. I was told you can go in free too if you can prove that you are a buddhist.

Same thing for Bhubing Palace. If you have work permit or local driving license, you can get in with local price. Seens like Chiang Mai is much more expat friendly as compared to Sukhothai.

No I did not drop by the waterfall.

It was already late when we reached Phitsanulok and we settled down in a 390THB a night motel. Non-experience drivers should avoid driving at night because there are simply no street lights at some parts of the highway.

We visited some famous temples the next day. They are also charging 40THB for foreigners but I didn't see the sign until I finished touring the place.

The total journey was around 2,000km as we stopped by quite a bit of places as well as driving up Doi Suthep. It is also easy to find lodging if you don't mind staying in cheap guesthouses or motels. Most cost less than 500THB so don't expect room service. There are also many rest stops along the way where you can take toilet or coffee breaks. Overall it was quite an experience.

Thanks Bucky for the info and pictures.
How were the road conditions, all the way up?
How many days did it take you to get to Chiang Mai?
    Much taffic?
I am thinking of doing the same trip soon, so any additional information would be great.
    Cheers, Merry Christmas.

my first thought was reading this, you can prove it by not making a fuss about 30 baht and considering it your donation to the temple.

Re: Road Trip - Bangkok- Sukothai- Chiang Mai- Phitsanulok - Bangkok

=) Haha good one Betti, words can be really be deceiving when you put it in this way (in my initial thoughts, i'm just curious about the sentence only and didn't relook from all the possible sides) ...i really need to add in more sentences.

1st. I'm not making a fuss about 30 baht as i am a vivid supporter for donations to buddhist temples all these while =) If you had looked at my avatar pic dated 1993, this was a present from my mother when she had contributed to the building of Hall of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva from Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery, Singapore. Most of the building are infested by termites at that time so there's a need to build a new hall (i suppose)

2nd. I'm just curious by how and what methods to prove if a person is a buddhist

=) I'm very sorry for the misleading...
