    First time going to Thailand

    Hi there,

I don't know where to start really? I usually go to Florida every year for a 2 month holiday to relax, get some some and enjoy the food and drink they have to offer. This year however I wish to try out Thailand.

In Florida I usually rent a nice villa with a pool but I have been searching the internet and the villas in Thailand seem a hell of a lot more expensive than they do in Florida, am I looking in the wrong place?

I also have no idea where to stay. I dont mind staying a week in some places like Bangkok, Pattaya etc to just say I have been there and see what its like but ideally I am looking for a nice relaxing place to stay with nice surroundings. A place where I can just sit in the back garden by the pool on my laptop and relax.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me on where I should stay and where I could rent from? I have googled lots of places to stay but I have no idea where they are and if I would be wasting my time staying in those areas.

Any suggestions or help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

    Al

    hi
if your going to Thailand for the 1st time and on your own and for 2 months wow that's a bit of a tough one, Florida to Thailand is so different!
yes you can stay somewhere that has a swimming pool and stay in 1000bht-2000bht a night hotel, and live a life of luxury better quality but less cost than Florida, hopefully some one here will give good on line discount hotel sites.

But the language will cause problems unless you pre book a rough itinerary of where your going and staying, as then the places you book through will arrange travel between without ripping you off.
Travel light as you can buy everything you need in Thailand very cheap, good luck and enjoy.

I forgot to add, I will most likely be going with a friend.

These hotels for 1000-2000bht a day what sort of quality would I be expecting?

    Thanks

    hi
hotels are always double beds, im not sure if they charge per room or per person, but if it was me, by just looking on any cheap hotel web site these prices come up.
now i dont stay in fancy hotels, but as i stay in guest houses but i think for 1000-2000bht you would be staying in a palace compared to UK or American standards.

have a look though some of the old posts to get some of the web sights, maybe travel supermarket or something like that, the big comparison sites should be best. i could walk in anywhere in Thailand and get a 1000bht a night room easy and high standard, but means you need to be able to speak a little thai and haggle so i would not suggest it to you.

www.thaihoteldiscounts.com just looked for you would get a 3 star hotel for 2 people one week 15,000bht for week or 2000 per night, that took me 5mins to look for so, you should be able to find something a lot less and just as good and 3 star is like 5 star to uk standards

just checked again another 3 star 1,600bht a night soi 19 sukumvit bangkok same web site, not sure if im aloud to put up site names so better copy it down in case it needs to be removed, i dont think you'll have any problems if your happy with these prices, staying by your pool and living in luxury

Not the ones I've stayed in, we've sometimes had rooms with two singles.

Has anyone had any experience with the LK chain of hotels? I like the look of them and their monthly price seems good also.

Re: First time going to Thailand

Could any of you tell me what would be an ideal place to stay? I have seen a few villas I like in the following places:

    Hua-Hin
    Cha-am
    Pattaya
    Koh Samui
    Krabi

I have heard Koh Samui is a great place to stay, I would like to stay in a place that is nice and friendly, clean and at night I could go for a few bars for a drink and enjoy the night life but nothing too mad. I hear Pattaya is pretty bad as its just full of europeans

You have something against Europeans? haha
Doesn't really matter where you go, people are friendly everywhere. As far as cleanliness goes, well I guess you'll find out for yourself. If you haven't been before, prepare for the culture shock

    hi,
never heard of cha-am but the others apart from maybe Hua-Hin are full of westerners enjoying thailand, thats the problem you cant keep a great place hidden for long, but don't worry any off these places 5 mins out of the centre its very quite,
but i hope you realise, koh samui and krabi are flights from bangkok, 12 hours plus if on a bus! pattaya 90 minute taxi from bangkok, Thailand is a big place, especially if traveling on a bus!
