    Thaksin: I'll accept the verdict
    Published: 26/02/2010 at 03:09 PM

A grim looking Thaksin Shinawatra addressed opposition Puea Thai members at the party's headquarters via video link on Friday, saying he and his family would be able to cope, regardless of the verdict on the assets seizure case.

The Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions is ruling on whether the frozen assets worth 76.6 billion baht of the Shinawatra family should be seized by the state.

Thaksin's address was about five minutes long.

"Today, I'm more heartened and ready for any outcome of the verdict. My family and I are prepared to deal with the imminent situation," Thaksin said.

Fugitive former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said in his statement that he does not accept the court’s verdict to seize his 46 billion baht in assets, saying it was something like he was robbed.

Thaksin’s statement was read out by lawyer of the Shinawatra family, Noppadon Pattama, on Saturday late afternoon at headquarters of the opposition Puea Thai Party.

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is preparing to appeal against the ruling by the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions on the seizure of his 46.37 billion baht assets.

"I've instructed my lawyers to look into it [the appeal]," Thaksin said in a message on Twitter yesterday. "This case is not a normal case. It has been tried in a single court under the coup laws. They gave me no justice."

Thaksin has 30 days to appeal

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has 30 days to appeal the court’s verdict seizing 46 billion baht of his assets, after which the funds will be confiscated, Pongpanu Sawetrun, director-general of the Comptroller General’s Department, said.

“If the former premier fails to file an appeal, the 46 billion baht in assets will be taken as state assets,” Mr Pongpanu said on Monday morning.

This would mean the government would need to borrow less to finance its economic stimulus measures, he added.

Mr Pongpanu said there would be discussions on whether to add Thaksin's money to this fiscal year’s budget or to reserve the funds for the 2011 fiscal budget.

As far as I understand, you cannot appeal the verdict of the supreme court as it is the last of three courts. However, I believe you have 30 days to lodge new evidence that might alter the outcome.

Prosecutors to seek court order seizing Thaksin assets
    Published: 3/03/2010 at 04:49 PM
    Online news: Local News

Attorney-general Chulasingh Vasantasing said on Wednesday he will immediately ask the Supreme Court to issue an order seizing 46.37 billion baht of Thaksin Shinawatra's assets, as set out in Friday's verdict, even though the ousted prime minister's lawyers say they will provide fresh evidence justifying a new trial within the requisite 30 days.

Mr Chulasingh said he personally believed Thaksin would not have any new evidence which could lead the court to change its verdict.

Isn't that a bit naughty of him to say that? Surely things should be done according to the rule of law not by the whim of one man? If he does this then it gives more fuel to the fire for the red shirts.

Absolutely. Also suggests strongly the original verdict was rigged.
Hardly gives confidence to foreign investors when combined with constant rumours of a military coup, to say the very least.
